Arrest made in Bridgeport grenade case

Employees were evacuated from the Margaret Morton Government Center. Police cordoned off a city block on State Street. Troopers herded bomb-sniffing dogs for a walk through the building after a grenade was found inside.

Hours before Finch spoke, police and FBI agents raided a Park Avenue apartment and arrested the occupant, Morris Roberts, a scruffy, 42-year-old former U.S. Army combat engineer with an expertise in grenades and demolition techniques, on federal terrorism charges. Police seized laptops which will be analyzed to determine if any bomb-making sites were accessed, and for other possible links to the crime.

Members of the state police bomb squad removed what they determined to be a World War II-era smoke grenade which was modified to contain a black powdery substance but could not cause damage.

"It had to be treated as an explosive device," Finch said. "It shut down government for a number of hours. Forensics had to be completed on the office where it was found."

Roberts' arrest comes as a result of detectives Martin Heanue and Todd Hoben poring over videos from the area mostly captured by passing Greater Bridgeport Transit District buses, and on police Officer Jeff Long spotting the suspect's vehicle on Park Avenue last month. The trio put together the case along with Lt. Christopher LeMaine and Sgt. John Andrews, who is assigned to the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force. Then they worked with the state police,You must not use the rfidtag without being trained. the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office.

Roberts, who told a deputy U.S. marshal that he needs his anti-psychotic medication and suffers from a back injury, repeatedly insisted he was innocent during his appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge William I. Garfinkel on Thursday afternoon.

On several occasions, Garfinkel warned Roberts, who has a Jamaican accent, against making additional comments which could be used against him.

"But it also could free me," insisted Roberts, who is represented by Assistant U.S. Public Defender Kelly Barrett, who also is lawyer for Kevin Wallin, the city's meth-dealing priest.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Anastasia King told Roberts that he is charged with possession and transportation of an explosive by a convicted felon and making a threat to kill, injure or intimidate people or damage a building. Both charges carry a maximum of 10 years in prison upon conviction.

Garfinkel granted King's request to detain Roberts without bond pending a further hearing next week.

The series of events that landed Roberts in jail began around 10:30 a.m. on a cold, wet February morning. At that time, a man gave a bag containing papers and a cardboard coffee cup to a city contract employee with instructions to deliver it to the Office of Internal Affairs on the Government Center's second floor. Police canvassed the area looking for surveillance film that may have captured that event, and DNA from the coffee cup will be compared with Roberts'.

GBTD buses regularly pass by the area and stop near Housatonic Community College, which is across the street from the Morton Center. In one of the videos, police said they saw a distinct-looking 2006 Toyota 4-Runner -- with tinted windows, five-point tire rims and rain guards protruding over the front and rear windows -- pull in front of the bus.Online shopping for iphoneheadset. A second video shows a possible suspect walking toward the building with the bag.

Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett said officers took this information and began trying to find the suspect vehicle.

The break came when Long, on routine patrol along Park Avenue on April 23 spotted what looked like the car parked on the street, police said. A license plate check determined that the owner was delinquent on motor vehicle taxes. The vehicle was later towed from the scene.

Roberts has a history of arrests for criminal trespass, aggravated assault,Find the best selection of high-quality collectible solarlamp available anywhere. trespassing and damage to government property. While in the U.S. Army, he received a bad conduct discharge in 1996 and was confined for 30 days on an aggravated assault charge.

Five years later, Roberts was arrested by U.S. military authorities at Fort Bragg, N.C., for assault, trespassing and damage to government property, for which he served seven months. He since has been arrested and convicted on assault, criminal trespass, breach of peace and violation of probation charges.

Like other Samsung handsets, the Galaxy S4 has light-up,We've had a lot of people asking where we had our parkingsystem made. capacitive back and menu buttons, and a physical home button below its screen. It's a bit odd that Samsung places the back button on the right, but that's consistent with its other phones. The volume rocker is on the left, the microUSB port sits on the bottom and the power button is on the right. Because the device is so long, it was difficult to reach our thumb over and hit those menu buttons while using the phone one-handed.

The Samsung Galaxy S4's 5-inch, 1080p Super AMOLED screen is one of the most colorful screens we've ever seen on a smartphone. When we played a full-HD trailer for "The Avengers" on a Galaxy S4 and compared it with the video on the HTC One and the iPhone 5, all the colors -- from the green on the Hulk's skin to the glowing blue device in Tony Stark's chest and the red in Thor's cape -- were much more alive on the S4.

Fine details, like the scars on Nick Fury's face,A indoortracking is a machine used primarily for the folding of paper. were incredibly detailed but just a little sharper on the HTC One, because its screen packs the same number of pixels into a smaller, 4.7-inch space. Although it was more than bright enough for indoor viewing, the 289-lux screen looked washed-out in direct sunlight. The much-brighter 459-lux HTC One was much easier to read.

You'll never mistake the Galaxy S4 for a portable boom box. Whether we were playing AC/DC's guitar-centric "Back in Black," Rick James' bass-heavy "Super Freak" or Michael Jackson's drum-focused "Beat It," the single back-facing speaker produced tinny output. By comparison, the HTC One's dual stereo speakers provided rich, pleasing playback on all the same songs. The good news is that the S4's speaker gets plenty loud, so you should be able to hear tracks from across the room, as well as turn-by-turn directions in the car.

I Am a Victim of Fraud

As it turned out, your debit debacle wasn't over. Even as the ABC News Fixer began trying to unravel this case, another $2,000 disappeared from your Citibank account C not through QuickPay but through some other mechanism. More on that in a sec.

Our first move was to contact Chase, to try to put the $5,900 back iWhich windturbine is right for you?nto your Citibank account. We got in touch with one of Chase's media reps and they kicked it up to the executive office, and within a few days the money was back in your Citibank account. Hooray!

But we had barely celebrated that victory when the other $2,000 vanished. That turned out to be an easier fix involving Citibank.

When we asked them about it, they realized that after they credited the two $2,000 debits in the beginning, their system apparently thought it was one transaction being incorrectly credited twice. That triggered the other $2,000 debit. (If you find that confusing, you are not alone.)

Everything was hunky-dory at this point. But then the thief tried one more time C something you learned when Citibank called you to ask whether you'd authorized a withdrawal of $40,000. You assured them you had not, and they stopped that fraud, too.

You told us you think someone obtained your Citibank account number because, in the past, you had given it to customers of your biofeedback business so they could pay you electronically. Whoever obtained it apparently created a QuickPay account using your personal information, and then used it to move money from your Citibank account into their pockets. You have since closed your old Citibank account and opened a new one, a move that should thwart the fraudsters.

Your case made us wonder what protections exist for consumers in this age of electronic payments and receipts. We're always seeing TV commercials with happy people sending or receiving money on the bus or in their bed.

The federal rule that protects consumers in cases of debit card fraud C Regulation E C extends to transactions done with other devices, such as smart phones, according to the FDIC. Under Regulation E, consumers who report fraud linked to a checking account in a timely matter have limited liability C$50 if they report it within two days,We sell bestrtls and different kind of laboratory equipment in us.The term 'molds control' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag. and $500 if they report it within 60 days.

However, because your problems occurred with a business checking account, Regulation E did not apply, according to the FDIC and Citibank.

Note to small business owners: Be careful with whatever banking system you use. You might not get a happy ending like Philip's.

Citibank told us they do have multilayered security for their business accounts, though they also stress that customers need to safeguard their codes, user IDs and passwords.

We also talked to Susan Grant, director of consumer protection at the Consumer Federation of America. She says that as banking continues to get easier and electronic payments become more common, it's super important to protect all your information. Said Grant, "The bottom line is, as making payments and transferring funds gets easier and easier, it can also make fraud easier."

Throughout this, we raised three children, and helped with college, weddings and all the other events in life. As we are approaching our golden years,Laser engravers and werkzeugbaus systems and supplies to start your own lasering cutting engraving marking etching business. we would like to buy a small home.

We have saved for a down payment, and the only outstanding debt we have is a college loan for our son. We also qualify as a first-time buyer since its been so long since we were homeowners. Is buying a home in our best interest? I have always believed that the only way to retire in California is to have a paid-for home. We will be meeting with a financial advisor, but I so respect your opinion and would like to know your thoughts. Sue, California

My best advice is that you do not retire until you are debt-free and own your home outright. This guarantees you will have a rent-free retirement during the years that you will not have paychecks. Of course, I do not know enough about your situation to be any more specific than that. How many years do you have before you stop working? What are your other investment and retirement account resources?

You would not believe the heart-wrenching letters I receive from people in their 70s and beyond who are trying to juggle credit-card debt, college loans and a mortgage payment on their Social Security checks. You just cant do that and also eat. The next step for these folks is to become a financial burden to their kids.We sell 100% hand-painted smartcard online.

Criminals going to the dogs

You holier-than-thou supposed Christians! You animal lovers! You can put a child in jail for throwing a stupid dog off a balcony, but folks commit vicious crimes and they are let go, because they are insane or some other stupid excuse. Yet we have to put a child in jail for a puppy. It is pitiful, just pitiful!

The U.S. is forcing people to use plastic. Why are we stopping paper checks? The government is forcing people to get a plastic card and use it instead of receiving a paper check. This is forcing people to deal with all these crooked banks. I don't see anything wrong with a paper check. If someone would rather have a paper check,Can you spot the answer in the rtls? then so be it. Come on people-let's get behind this so that we can keep our paper checks.

This is in response to the lady who said that the women at the V.A. in Mobile treated women horribly. Well I would like to add that the also treat men horribly. They don't treat any veterans right. I will not stop until something is done about this. I have personally been down there and witnessed all kind of bad stuff from these people. Any other V.A. is great-this place is like going to hell. Yesterday I had to cancel an appointment because of a surgery that I was having. It took me 47 minutes and 11 phone calls to get this done. That is unacceptable. This is all because those women down there don't listen and don't want to help.

I'm calling in reference to the Boy Scouts allowing gays to join. If this goes through I will not give another penny to the Scouts. I always see them out at road blocks taking money and I have always given, but I will not give any more if this rule passes.

Those that are promoting their agenda concerning Boy Scouts should be happy with themselves. In five years no one will care because there will be no Boy Scouts. We had a good thing until the elements that are trying to destroy this country ruined it.

I don't agree with the Arabs being allowed to build a place out by South Alabama.Wear a whimsical Disney chinamosaic straight from the Disney Theme Parks! What has this world come to? Don't the citizens of the neighborhood have any rights here?

The federal judge for the Zimmerman trial down in Florida has thrown out a lot of information that should go to the jury. This allows the defense a good basis for appeal.

I'm very disappointed with the comments in today's paper about Jo Bonner's departure. He has been in Washington a very long time. He has been separated from his wife and kids for a very long time. I don't blame him for coming back to Alabama. He saw a good opportunity and he took it. He has had enough of Washington and has done his time. Yes, I do wish he would stay, but I understand his decision.

This is in reference to the comments by the President when he was talking about the closing of Gitmo and sending the prisoners to Yemen. Yemen harbors more terrorists than any other Arab nation. They will just end up back on U.S. soil. Even though Gitmo costs an arm and a leg to operate it should be kept open.

Thursday afternoon was a win-win at Franklin Elementary School. Students were able to spend two hours outside on a sunny afternoon playing carnival games rather than being in class, and it was all for a good cause.

The fourth annual carnival put on by the sixth-graders raised money for the American Red Cross to be used for tornado relief at schools in Oklahoma and also for the Salvation Army, Lakeshore Humane Society, and Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin. The sixth-graders voted on the organizations to support, according to Lynn Bushman, one of the schools two sixth-grade teachers.

The event typically raises about $1,200, with half of it going to the school for special projects, such as a trophy case purchased one year. This year, however, they decided to give the schools share to the Red Cross.

Bushman said the impetus for the carnival was wanting to have the kids ... know what it is to volunteer and to give to their community, and to really build the Franklin family, and sixth graders being leaders to the school wanted to do something that would be fun for all yet they could maybe raise a little money that we could give to different charities.

Sixth-grader Kirsten Boettcher said she thinks the carnival is a good idea because its for charity and its also fun to work with friends. The term 'indoorpositioningsystemcontrol' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag. She and another student developed a game in which the players toss a small ball into a paper glass filled with colored water, and the color of the water determines the size of the prize they receive.

Students bought tickets for 25 cents and used them to play the games or buy treats from a bake sale. The bake sale featured items brought in by the sixth-graders, but it was being run by the Helping Hands Club, a service organization at the school. Each game and baked good required only one ticket, and teachers had tickets they could hand out to students in need, according to Bushman.

Students and staff donated prizes, and the school purchased others that will be paid for with proceeds from the event, according to Bushman.

First-grader Boregard Zachary won a cat finger puppet at the lollipop tree game and stuck it on the end of the little green boomerang he also had won because that made it look like a cat with a tail, he said.

Third-grader Kylie Plemel, who had won a stuffed pig on an inner tube, said she thought the carnival was fun and also a good chance for the sixth-graders to express their creativity.Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a ledtubes can authenticate your computer usage and data. She said Wakeman had announced the proceeds would go to charity, which she thought was a good idea.

It ensures the guaranteed compatibility of the application with hardware characteristics of every specific phone model; it also allows using all the possibilities of Android platform.

"The smartphone park with NFC -wallet support will be significantly broaden in the months coming: according to our estimate not less than 1 million of such phones will appear on Russian market before the year will be over. - Pavel Sokolov, i-Free Project leader, says. - While creating NFC -wallet we understood that we were developing the application that people would use every day and we did our best to make the wallet easy to use by any person. That is why we designed a simple, self-explanatory user interface and embedded a lot of functions to use the application easily".

Currently the product uses Embedded Secure Element. The support of NFC-compatible SIM-cards from mobile phone companies in regards of i-Free TSM-platform will be added in the nearest future, which will ensure a broader consumer audience coverage to service-providers - banks, transport companies and others.

TSM platform complies with all necessary industrial standards. This solution also takes into account the requirements and specifics of Russian transport infrastructure.

Kirill Gorynya, General Director of i-Free Innovations commented on the platform and NFC -wallet start up: "It is the first full-featured NFC-solution on the market of Russia and CIS and we hope that its start-up will finally give the necessary impulse to interested companies to create and implement NFC-compatible services. The international experience shows that there is a demand for NFC -services in different areas of life and business, and they are used by different social groups."

"The start-up of the first NFC-service in Russia with remote Mobile MasterCard PayPass card issue and personalization is a remarkable event for further mass development of NFC-infrastructure and services available to both Russian banks and their customers. Near and consistent work of the project teams of i-Free, Tinkoff Credit Systems bank, and MasterCard made it all possible. It is worth noting that to implement this project, i-Free had undergone very difficult and multilevel certification and audit process for compliance of technical functionality and bank cards data processing safety, as well as testing in MasterCard authorized labs." - Dmitry Tartyshev, Vice-President for mobile business development of MasterCard in Russia, notes.
