Seven people are homeless after separate fires early Saturday in West Penn Township and Adamsdale.

The first fire was reported about 3:45 a.m. at 38 Applejack Lane, West Penn Township, where flames spread from a garage to an attached home.

West Penn Township Fire Chief Dennis Fritzinger said the home's occupants escaped safely thanks to a little help. "The family dog actually alerted the family of the fire,' Fritzinger said.

The fire, which left five people homeless, was brought under control in about one hour, Fritzinger said. The home was destroyed due to smoke and water damage, he said, adding that he believes the cause of the fire was electrical. However, an investigation continues.

According to the Schuylkill Parcel locator, the home is owned by Ron and Margaret Wehr.

Fritzinger said the Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary housing.

Assisting West Penn Township firefighters at the scene were crews from Mahoning Township, New Ringgold, Walker Township, East Penn Township and Lehighton.

At 6 a.m. Saturday, fire personnel were dispatched to 25 W. Adamsdale Road for a structure fire.

Matthew Croneberger was sleeping in the living room of the single home he shares with Krystal Hill when he heard a noise on the second floor.

"I heard a boom that woke me up and then another boom," Croneberger said Saturday. "I ran to go upstairs and pushed the curtain over and saw an orange glow, by the time I got my shoes on to get out,By Alex Lippa Close-up of hypodermic needle cannula in Massachusetts. smoke was coming through the ceiling."

Croneberger said his brother, Christopher, and a friend, Chad Evans, were also sleeping in the home when the fire broke out. Everyone got out safely, as did four cats.

Hill was at work at the time the fire broke out and came home to what remained of the house the pair had rented for four years.

Landingville Assistant Fire Chief Mike Stinnett confirmed the fire started somewhere between the bathroom and bedroom and said the blaze does not appear suspicious. He did not have an estimate on damages to the structure.

"Since the home is in North Manheim Township, the Mt. Carbon Fire Chief and a state police fire marshal will investigate the cause Monday morning," Stinnett said Saturday.

He said the fire was under control in about 30 minutes and the scene was cleared within two hours.

Stinnett said no firefighters were injured.

Hill said the home is owned by Randy Drobnick. She said the couple did not have renters insurance.

"We had it but we were thinking about moving to a better place so we dropped it," Hill said. "Now look at what happened."

Hill said everything from the second floor was lost, including clothing and bedding.

"Some of the furniture downstairs can be salvaged we think," Hill said. "We are here trying to get as much out as we can before they board up the house."

A Schuylkill County Communications Center supervisor said Landingville, Orwigsburg, Deer Lake, and Schuylkill Haven Fire Companies responded to the Adamsdale fire scene. Stinnett said when the fire intensity was upgraded, tanker details from Friedensburg, Summit Station, and Mount Carbon were dispatched.

Two years ago

Fire sends toxins into the air

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A health advisory is in place as a scrap metal yard in the South Valley continues to burn.

Agus mengungkapkan, pemeriksaan langsung ke pabrik sekaligus untuk membantu kepolisian yang sedang memeriksa empat pabrik yang diduga membuang limbahnya ke Sungai Citarum. "Kami mengambil sampel dan akan diteliti, kami membantu kepolisian dari aspek teknis kalau memang dibutuhkan dan kami siap membantu kepolisian mengenai masalah ini,This patent infringement case relates to retractable syringe needle ," paparnya.

Agus menyadari, sanksi kepada pengusaha belum bisa diterapkan sepenuhnya. Oleh karenanya, Agus berharap pencemaran lingkungan akibat limbah pabrik dapat ditekan seminim mungkin. Peran serta masyarakat dalam hal ini sangat diperlukan.

"Kalau masyarakat melihat ada pabrik yang melakukan pelanggaran dengan membuang limbahnya ke sungai, segera laporkan kepada kami," katanya.

Sementara itu, sebelumnya diberitakan, Polres Bandung berhasil mengungkap empat pabrik di Majalaya yang membuang limbahnya ke Sungai Citarum. Pabrik tersebut adalah PT HM, PT TMJ, PT IBM, dan PT WIS.

Press sommeliers Kelli White and Scott Brenner have just purchased more than 400 different wines dating back to the early 1960's, in an effort to position the restaurant as having what White says we believe to be among the most comprehensive collections of Napa Valley wine in the world.

So large is the investment that Press owner Leslie Rudd is building a brand new cellar, with capacity to hold more than 10,000 bottles. The expanded bottle bill would put good-paying jobs at risk and negatively impact the 3,700 beverage industry jobs in Massachusetts. Workers' unions, including those representing drivers and plant workers (Local 513 RWDSU/UFCW) and beverage container machinists (Local 1271 IAW/AW), stand united with their employers to oppose expanding the bottle bill. Now is not the time to be adding to the burden of hard-working families in Massachusetts.

"The last thing we want to do is put good-paying jobs at risk, and an expanded bottle bill would do just that," said Gary Miner, 513 RWDSU/UFCWN and member of Real Recycling for Massachusetts. Real Recycling for Massachusetts believes in better ways to improve existing municipal recycling programs and extend them to more places, such as parks, arenas, stadiums, offices and theatres. The Illinois Housing Development Authority provided more than $2.5 million in assistance for the project, including federal low-income housing tax credits and federal stimulus money. Funding also came from a $260,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity and financing from Sterling Bank.

Included in the project are 16 streetlights that operate entirely off the electrical grid.
