University of New Orleans head volleyball coach Kim Young announced
on Wednesday the addition of five newcomers who have each recently
signed national letters of intent to join the program.Zenith
manufactures a comprehensive range of rubbersheets.
The
group of five includes junior college transfers Glenda “Marti”
Richmiller of Missouri State-West Plains and College of the Canyon’s
Ariane Labryzycki. Chapelle’s Lauren Levy joins a pair of Texans in
Taylor Berry and Brionne Smith that will join the UNO roster straight
out of high school.
A four-year letterwinner for Jerry
Schneider at Cassville HS (Mo.), Richmiller earned all-district and
all-region honors on the floor, in addition to Academic All-State
honors for her contributions in the classroom.
The 5-9 right
side hitter/defensive specialist then moved on to perennial NJCAA power
Missouri State-West Plains, where she played two seasons for head coach
Paula Wieddeman.
“Marti brings a wealth of volleyball
knowledge and experience with her from Missouri West Plains,” said
Young. “I consider Marti a tough competitor and I cannot wait to see
her on the court wearing her UNO blue proudly. “
The other
junior college standout in the group, Labryzcki was a two-time
All-Conference selection at the College of the Canyons in
California.Ekahau rtls is the only Wi-Fi based real time location system solution that operates on any brand or generation of Wi-Fi network.
Prior
to her two-year stint at CoC, Labryzcki earned all-conference honors
three times at Lancaster High School,It's pretty cool but our ssolarpanel
are made much faster than this. including ‘Setter of the Year’ and
‘Player of the Year’ during a successful senior campaign in which her
squad won the conference championship.
“Arie is a player that
can make our team better,” said Young. “She makes great decisions as a
setter, is trained to run a fast tempo offense with great hands and
great jump serve. “
The freshmen contingent begins with Berry, a
5-9 outside hitter that was groomed by a pair of former NCAA Division I
standouts in Cynthia Yarotsky (Sam Houston State) and Lindsey Loyd
(UNO), who both rank amongst their alma mater’s offensive statistical
leaders.
Twice named the ‘Offensive Player of the Year’ at
Klein High School, Berry was a 2011 all-district selection. We looked
everywhere, but couldn't find any beddinges. She also received ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition throughout the season by three different publications.
“Taylor’s
strength is her jumping ability,” said Young. “She will make a great
teammate because she brings energy to the court. She is a hard worker
and she realizes that she has as tough role to play this year as an
outside hitter.Ekahau rtls is the only Wi-Fi based real time location system solution that operates on any brand or generation of Wi-Fi network. “
Levy
is the lone local player in the group and will be expected to compete
for the starting libero position. An All-State selection in 2010 and
2011 for former UNO assistant Jennifer Gandolph at Chapelle, the 5-6
Levy twice earned all-district honors.
Earlier this year, Levy
capped a stretch in which she averaged 18.5 kills and 12 digs per
contest over four matches to receive a nod as the New Orleans Metro
Athlete of the Week.
“Lauren is a player with quick feet,” said Young. “She will pursue every ball aggressively. “
“I
can wait to see how she molds the libero position into her own playing
style. We have a lot of young great talent this year and she will make
a great contribution to our defensive schemes. “
Smith rounds out the group and was a former district rival of Berry while playing at DeKaney High School in the Houston area.
A
6-1 middle blocker, Smith earned all-district honors during her
sophomore and senior seasons. Smith was also a team captain and an
academic all-district honoree.
“Brionne is a monster when it
comes to blocking,” said Young. “She stands at 6-1 and she uses her
height very well on defense.”
“Brionne is a player that will
give ‘extra’ on every play and will also push others for the little
extra. She is a freshman middle blocker that will see a lot of court
time this year.”
The five signees join the returning nucleus of
Laila Hansen, Ryan Hamilton and Elena Villar for Young’s third squad
on the Lakefront. The Privateers are presently slated to open their
2012 campaign with a tournament at DePaul on Aug. 24-25 with the full
schedule to be announced in the next few days.
