Fresh fish, and a coat of paint, bring neighborhood together

The fish of the future is floating on asphalt where South 49th Street crosses Fawcett Avenue.

The sea creature is Tacomans'freshest effort to build community,These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! calm traffic and pretty up the city in unexpected ways.

Last Saturday, some 50 people – kids, neighbors and members of Sustainable Tacoma-Pierce – painted in all the spaces between the crosswalks.

"The idea is to create a more pedestrian-friendly landscape without a lot of expense," said ringleader Carolyn Hartt.

That’s how they sold the idea to city officials, got the permit and met the requirements to do it right. She assured them that painting pavement has worked well elsewhere.Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too. Sustainable Tacoma-Pierce lifted the idea from Portland.

It also has worked here. Last year neighbors painted the same intersection with a design inspired by a ceramic tile. You can see traces of it in the fish’s scales.

Plus, it was lawful, organized and free to the city. The neighbors followed all the rules, notified all the agencies whose vehicles use the intersection, rented the approved barriers,Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains, gathered the supplies and settled on a design approved by all.Polycore Floor tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, Sustainable Tacoma-Pierce paid the $500 that covered everything from barricade rental to pigment.

Hartt, 47, is a member of the group, which supports the idea of "permaculture" and will offer a course on it from September through February.

It’s also big on building a strong sense of place and working in small ways to make outsized impacts. Neighbors Daniel Fritsch, 55, Terri Clay, 49, and Mark Bostwick, 55, have been doing the same thing informally.

Fritsch has lived in his corner house for 29 years and sees pride of place growing all around him.

Drive – or better, walk – the neighborhood west of Stewart Middle School, and you’ll see arbors and gazebos, planting strips with flowers and veggies, a corn field in a front yard.An Cold Sore of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby. This week you’d have seen people on ladders, making the best of painting season. Even the school has a hillside of raised bed gardens filled with spinach, beets, kale, lettuce, beans, peas and pumpkins.

A Look at Notable Baristaville-Area Properties

Hurricane Irene wiped out the open house scene on Sunday, but it's always time to daydream about moving to a new house. Here's a roundup of some interesting houses on the market.

This 10-room Colonial/Victorian stands out primarily due to its architectural detailing, much of which remains intact. The circa 1919 house has features most often seen in houses three times its cost, notably three (nonworking) fireplaces, including the original brick hearth in the kitchen, which serves as a focal point. Two of them can be restored to working order. The kitchen, which has newer appliances, also has its original large walk-in pantry; the space"could lend itself to making the kitchen larger, without much effort," according to realtor Joanna Radecki.Polycore Floor tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,

Other details include a lemonaid front porch and back porch; high ceilings; palladium half-circles over some of the windows; and hardwood floors. The roof is newer,Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too. as is the furnace and vinyl siding. The windows are due for an upgrade, however. Generally, rooms are spacious. The finished third floor, featured at right, was used as an apartment of sorts and boasts a bedroom, living room and office space. There is a full, finished basement and oversize two-car detached garage. A deep, fenced-in backyard and a patio add to the house's charm.

The house has already sold twice, in fact, but both sales fell through for reasons unrelated to the house. The owner is extremely motivated and hopes the third sale is the charm.

Also on the market is the 14-room manor house of the original Armitage Estate, built in approximately 1909 by a successful British merchant looking to be reminded of home. The house was renovated in 2001 to include a gourmet kitchen with custom cabinetry, top-of-the-line appliances and a breakfast room. Other house attributes include skyline and mountain views; a master suite with a balcony; granite and onyx countertops throughout; custom built-ins; three fireplaces, in the dining room, family room and living room; beamed oak ceilings; rich wood paneling; wide arched doorways; central air; and a slate patio. Rooms are well-appointed, cared for and large. There is a full, unfinished basement and four-car attached garage with loft storage.Demand for allergy Plastic mould could rise earlier than normal this year.

The most unusual feature, aside from the acreage, is undoubtedly the"signature lookout tower, fully restored, with a spiral staircase to the top overlooking the formal gardens and ecologically correct pasture," says realtor Kate McDonough. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives!

Grand is the best descriptor for this 14-room Tudor,Initially the banks didn't want our Ventilation system . constructed in 1910. The"Tudor Rose Mansion" has ornate, oversized rooms; wide hallways; high and beamed ceilings; and numerous trees and gardens spread out over its secluded, level lot. This house, situated in the Montrose section, is also noteworthy for its acreage and price point, though the taxes are clearly no bargain. Other regal touches include crown molding throughout; fireplaces; bold colors; and generous storage space. There is a walkout basement and three-car attached garage.

Family Webicine

I am speaking about steROIDS, not hemorRHOIDS, to set the record straight. Many people who must take steroids will experience some adverse side effects, primarily stimulation or agitation.he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers. I often see this in children taking prednisone for asthma when a quiet little girl suddenly becomes Girl Gone Wild. I experienced this first-hand when treating my grandson. He even commented about the next day.

"Grandpa, that medicine made me wild!"

Anabolic steroids – like those illegal body-building steroids (including the male hormone,They take the plastic card to the local co-op market. testosterone) will make these muscular guys downright dangerous. Even estrogen (or the lack of estrogen) can cause some very interesting mood changes, from emotional crying to yes, even rage. There is something about the word "steroid" that bothers people. I suspect it is because of the word association with illegal steroids in sports. Even when I prescribe a mild steroid cream, like hydrocortisone, some people will refuse if I mention that it is a steroid. Now, I just say "an anti-inflammatory cream."

It has been decades since I needed to take prednisone. In the past, it was just for a brief period for an allergic response. I had developed sudden case of urticaria (hives) from an antibiotic prescribed to me by my wife. Since antibiotics can stay in your system for days, I needed a blast of prednisone to counteract the persistent allergic response.

For the last three weeks now, I have been on prednisone again, this time for a newly-diagnosed case of polymylagia rheumatica. I can’t really say that I have been experiencing rage per se, but I have definitely been having some side effects.

The first side effect that I noticed was insomnia, even when I took my daily dose all at once, early in the morning. Normally, when I am exhausted from my long days in the clinic, I can fall asleep easily. Reading a good book or even watching the History Channel can lull me into a deep sleep. On my day off or weekends, I may catch a power-nap around 3 PM. I have to avoid going to the movies in the mid-afternoon lest I start snoring in the middle of the theater. Since I started the prednisone, my wake-sleep cycle has changed. I am no longer tired mid-day, and I cannot fall asleep at my normal bedtime. Last night, even after a 12-hour shift at work, I was still awake at 4 AM! I have begun to lower my dosage so that I can get some sleep, but when I do, the pain in my muscles returns and that wakes me up. So far, I have been unable to find that perfect balance. One of my blog posters mentioned that lower dosages tend to be used more in other countries than the U.S., so I hope that I can get the prednisone down to the lowest possible dose.

Another unexpected side-effect was my mood. I consider myself an easy-going,Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, where he teaches TMJ in the Central Academy of Fine Arts. happy person, but since starting prednisone, I find myself more argumentative than usual when speaking to those nice tech support people in India, or a non-compliant or chronically-late patient. I firmly stand my ground when facing those clueless people who still feel that vaccines cause autism,a oil painting reproduction on the rear floor. but I have to be careful now that I don’t push them over the edge, attacking their views from every tangent.

Like having a few cups of coffee, I also find myself a bit zippy. I am typing faster, moving from one exam room to the next with lightning speed, and multi-tasking like a teenager. Coffee and prednisone is a combination that can get things done.

Cold-FX maker has failed to deliver on promises: Paladin

Millions of people around the world are constantly getting sore throats and runny noses,a oil painting reproduction on the rear floor. the unluckiest ones bedridden with a fever they just can't shake. But you wouldn't know it looking at the recent performance of Afexa Life Sciences Inc.

The Edmonton-based maker of Cold-FX has pledged for years to sell more of the the cold and flu remedy to more people, not only in Canada but globally. In fact,he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers. it has arguably delivered precious little on that promise and its share price shows it. What was a 4.70 stock six years ago has languished under $1 since late 2007.

Sure it may be a great little Alberta success story, with Cold-FX outselling Tylenol and Advil cold and flu products in Canada over each of the past four years.Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, But it has failed to grow internationally and failed to add any new products material to revenues, the Montreal company bidding for Afexa.

Following the rejection last week by Afexa's board of Paladin's hostile offer, Paladin on Monday fired back with a news release destined for Afexa shareholders that provided a reality check on the business.

The bottom line, according to Paladin: Afexa's cost structure is too big for a company its size. Its big sales engine, Cold-FX, can't get past second gear. And overall revenue growth is listless. All of which makes its current 55 per share offer more than fair value for Afexa shareholders. The bid represents a 16% premium to the share price before the bid was announced and a 57% premium over its price on July 14.

"Where the stock was wasn't a fluke," Paladin acting chief executive officer Mark Beaudet said in an interview Monday. "It was where it had gotten after four or five years of continuous downward trend."

A week ago, Afexa's board, acting on the advice of a special committee of independent directors, rejected Paladin's bid and recommended shareholders not tender their stock.

It said the bid, which values the company at about $57-million, doesn't adequately compensate shareholders for Cold-FX and gives little to no weight to new Cold-FX formulations and expansion plans. In addition, it said Paladin's offer doesn't recognize the value of any of Afexa's research and development work and products in the pipeline, where he teaches TMJ in the Central Academy of Fine Arts. including new drug possibilities for cholesterol reduction and blood glucose management.

"We believe the Paladin Offer is inadequate even to reflect the value of our marquee product Cold-FX, and gives little to no value of our growth opportunities through new products and new markets," said William White, chairman of Afexa's board.

For Mr., Beaudet, however, Afexa's arguments ring hollow because they're based on an assumption of what the company could be worth if it executes growth plans, not actual results. And the trouble is, those growth plans remain largely unexecuted. "It's the exact same plan, it's the exact same assumptions that they've been working with for the last five years or more. They take the plastic card to the local co-op market."

The Power and Glory of Cheesy TV Commercials

I recently saw a list of cheesy local TV commercials that got me laughing and thinking. Why exactly do these spots have such a time-honored place in our culture?

In Corpus Christi, Tex.If so, you may have a zentai ., where I grew up, the high priest of the daytime local genre was Mr.the Bedding pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs. Louie of Mr. Louie's Wig City. Day after day, he took to the airwaves, entering our living rooms while standing in front of hundreds of Styrofoam heads, each with a thousand-mile stare and some kind of Eva Gabor number on top. He'd shout their names as if they were horses coming down the home stretch: the Aspire! The Invitation! The Lite and Airy and Cheer! The Perk!

The grand finale of the spots was Mr. L, in solidarity with his target audience, wearing something that looked like coal on his head, and in full-on monotone, delivering the line that somehow seemed to make female follicles sit up: "Ladies, if your hair is not becoming to you, you should be coming to us!" The camera holds for three full seconds and then pulls back to show the support group of big-haired but vacant faces. Fade to black. Many years later, this commercial — $200 to produce, tops — still occupies a shelf in my brain.

But was it effective advertising? Clearly, a lot of other local advertisers thought so. In the New York metro area, Crazy Eddie, the electronics retailer who filled 30 seconds as if he had a vest with explosive devices underneath his Santa suit that would detonate if his decibel level dropped, will not soon be forgotten. Atlanta had the Wolfman and sidekick Donna,If any food China Porcelain tile condition is poorer than those standards, pitching sofas. Indiana has Butt Drugs, a sing-along spot with the cheeky line “free parking in the rear.” Houston has Mattress Mack and Gallery Furniture (voted the worst and best TV ads in the Houston Chronicle in the '80s) and the newer Houston furniture store pitchman making a run for the bedding crown,These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! Hilton the Chainsaw Guy of Hilton Furniture — who wound up being treated to 15 minutes of precious national TV fame courtesy of Conan O'Brien.

These pitchmen — because they're so good? because they're so bad? — often ignite their own celebrity, expanding their companies and hanging with sports stars and writing best-selling business books.

These commercials just keep coming,An Cold Sore of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby. so they must be getting results. This is professionally painful for me to acknowledge, but some of these spots are very effective in making sales. Here are some thoughts as to why we respond to the high cheese factor:

The spots are memorable. The higher the cheese, the more we gawk. Like a bad wreck, we just can't look away. They give us something to talk about around the water cooler, a common frenemy to have fun with and, perhaps, feel a little superior to.

We secretly like being yelled at. Cheesy commercials dislodge us from couch-potato stupors. They get our attention.

We have a weakness for faux celebrities. Spokespeople create their own celebrity by putting themselves in front of a camera and buying airtime. Recently, finding myself across the salad bar sneeze shield from a local chiropractor who "stars" in his own TV spots, I got a bump in my pumps — even though he was a lot shorter than he comes across on TV!

We kind of like being told what to do. Yes, we like to think we make our own decisions, but when someone directs us to "Come on down and see me!" we often respond like dogs to bones.

Experts say caution, focus important for after storm clean up

After the waters recede, the task of cleaning up damage from floodwaters may remain for many area residents.

The task can be a daunting one, but organizations like the Red Cross and N.C. Cooperative Extension offer tips to help residents determine what needs to be done and how to do it safely.

"Cleaning up after a flood is going to be a big task and it will help to think about what your priorities are before you start," said Robin Seitz, an extension agent at the Onslow County Cooperative Extension center.

Before beginning the clean-up process, make sure that it is safe to enter the building and address safety issues first. If an electrical system has been flooded, it should be checked by an electrician. If a fuse box is located in a flooded basement, do not turn electricity on until the water has been pumped out, Seitz said.

Disinfect wells and do not use water from a municipal system until health authorities have checked it.

Once it’s time to clean and scrub, the mud deposited with the floodwaters should be removed quickly.Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains,

"The mud and silt left in that come into the home, you need to get it out before it dries," Seitz said.

Walls and floors that have been flooded should be washed down with a hose before they dry, starting at the upper limit and working down. The walls and floors should then be disinfected. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives!

All drywall and insulation that has come in contact with flood waters should be removed. And because drywall acts like a sponge and can draw water above the flood level, it may be necessary to remove wall board above the flood line.

According to Red Cross information, homeowners should assume that a home that has been flooded has been contaminated by mold, which increases health risks for those with asthma, allergies and other breathing conditions.

Clean, disinfect and dry clothing,If so, you may have a zentai .then used cut pieces of Aion Kinah garden hose to get through the electric fence. If any food China Porcelain tile condition is poorer than those standards, furniture and household items that have been in contact with floodwaters.

In the kitchen, discard wood, plastic or rubber utensils, bowls, cutting boards or any utensil or container that can absorb water. Dishes and serving dishes with cracks or chips can be salvaged if used only for decorative purposes.

For items that can be cleaned, Seitz said first wash everything in soapy water, removing and scrubbing each part, rinse in clear water and then sanitize.

A chlorine bleach solution is an affordable option for sanitizing pots, pans, dishes and glassware, she said.

To make the solution, mix one tablespoon of unscented chlorine bleach in one gallon of warm water. Water should be warm and not hot since hot water can cause bleach to dissipate.

Immerse objects in the solution for 10 to 15 minutes and then let them air dry.

Thousands without power, flooding danger remains high

Despite weakening to a tropical storm from its peak as a category 3 hurricane, Irene hit New Hampshire hard Sunday, with heavy rain and wind knocking out power to more than 160,000.

The storm, which churned through all parts of the state, forced more than 100 road closures and nearly caused a breach of the Campton Pond dam in Campton, as the Mad and Pemigewasset rivers flooded.

"It's raining sideways right now," Campton resident Tom Hoyt, 52, said just before 5 p.m. Sunday. "We just had a big blow come through."

The Mad River was raging and water was lapping at the end of his driveway on Route 175, said Hoyt, who has lived at 1246 Main St. for 22 years.

"I can hear the sound of giant stones getting rolled down the river,These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives!" he said. "I've only heard that twice before."

According to the National Weather Service, winds reached upward of 40 mph in southern parts of New Hampshire, with gusts up to 50 mph. But the biggest concern was — and remains — flooding.

The National Weather Service reported that the Pemigewasset River crested at 16 and 1/2 feet at 5:45 p.m. Sunday. Its flood stage level is 9 feet.

"We are concerned about possible record flooding on the" Pemigewasset River, said Greg Champlin of the New Hampshire Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. "I've been here for 20 years and this is one of the quickest rises I've seen. This is a flash-flooding event."

Champlin said the Campton dam held, though. "It did not breach. There are sand bags in and the water is receding now," he said at 5:40 p.m.If so, you may have a zentai . Sunday.

A flood warning was issued throughout New Hampshire, and a tropical storm warning was issued in Hillsborough and Cheshire counties through tonight.

Fire and police call centers were flooded with reports of wind damage and downed trees and power lines around the state, especially in the southern and western parts.

Sections of Route 101 in Bedford were not passable because of downed trees, and the Department of Transportation reported that Route 47 in Francestown was closed in the morning because of downed power lines; one lane near Exit 5 on I-293 South was closed because of excessive water on the road.

Libyan rebels using micro UAV

Libyan rebels are using the Aeryon Scout micro unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in their fight against pro-Gaddafi forces, after receiving one of the aircraft from Canadian manufacturer Aeryon Labs.

While numerous UAVs operate over Libya (such as the Predator, Fire Scout and ScanEagle), these are all NATO assets,Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, leaving rebels without their own platform. However, Aeryon Labs earlier this week revealed that rebels have been using its Scout to acquire intelligence on enemy positions and to coordinate resistance efforts.

The company said that representatives from the Transitional National Council (TNC) were looking for an imagery solution to provide to the troops on the ground and chose the Scout after evaluating a series of micro UAVs.

In cooperation with the private security company Zariba Security Corporation and the Libyan Transitional National Council, Libyan troops were trained in-country on the use of the Scout UAV. Docking in the besieged city of Misrata, after an 18-hour boat ride from Malta, a representative from Zariba Security delivered and conducted Scout UAV training, which began at the Misrata Airport.the Hemroids by special invited artist for 2011,

"After only one demonstration flight, the TNC soldiers operated the following flight," said Charles Barlow of Zariba. "I was amazed how easy it was to train people with no previous UAV or aircraft experience, especially given the language barrier. Soldiers need tough, intuitive equipment – and the Scout delivered brilliantly."

With only a day and a half of training flights and a few familiarization flights, Aeryon Labs said the rebels put the Scout into service on the frontline and have so far operated it without any incident.

The Scout, developed from 2007–2009, is a small vertical takeoff and landing UAV that weighs only 1.5 kg (3 lbs) and can be packed into a suitcase or a backpack. Instead of using joysticks, the Scout uses a map-based, touch-screen interface that allows new users to pilot the system in just minutes. The Scout essentially flies itself, allowing the operator to focus on acquiring imagery, Aeryon Labs said.

The Scout has four rotors, each powered by a brushless DC electric motor, ensuring nearly silent operation. The vehicle can operate up to 3 km from the user, with a designed operational altitude above ground level of 300–500 feet at flying speeds of up to 50 km/h. It can tolerate winds of up to 80 km/h.

Sculptor finds art, life mix

Sculptor Jill Lareaux and her husband Chris Hogg usually spend their days in the chicken-coop-turned-studio they created on their remnant farm in East Saugatuck.

“We’re surrounded by the fields and our pets,” Hogg says. “Jill works on her sculptures and I work on projects for my business building prototype industrial design models.”

That idyllic picture darkened recently when Lareaux was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia.

“I was taking classes at Ox-Bow,” she says, “when I started feeling short of breath and noticed bruising on my arms which I hadn’t done anything to cause. I kept feeling worse every day.”

Finally, Hogg insisted they visit the Holland Hospital emergency room.

“We got the diagnosis at 2:30,” he says. “By 3:30 she was in an ambulance heading to Grand Rapids.

“As soon as she arrived at Spectrum Butterworth, she was hooked up to IVs,” Hogg says.

Lareaux is responding well to heavy chemotherapy. A second round will follow, then two more years of treatment.

“When we first learned Jill’s diagnosis, we were both so upset that we couldn’t even eat,” says Hogg.

“But the medical staff at both hospitals has been great. They are so positive that we feel positive.

“Luckily this type of leukemia is one of the most researched. With immediate treatment, the cure rate is high.”

So are medical costs—and the couple has no insurance. Hogg worked for years at Donnelly Corp., then at Johnson Controls Inc. in Holland before accepting a buyout with the economic collapse of 2008.

“I expected to work at JCI for the rest of my career,” he says. “If I didn’t accept the buyout, I knew a layoff was likely.”

Hogg struggled to get his own business off the ground, but orders have since then picked up dramatically—keeping him so busy that neither he nor Lareaux was aware that the COBRA health coverage he had taken out from JCI had run out.

“I carried medical insurance from the time I was 18 years old,” he says. “I can’t imagine how much I’ve paid for coverage over my lifetime.

“To not have it now is frightening. We don’t even know yet what the potential bill could be for Jill’s treatment …”

As an artist, Lareaux is known for her figural sculptures as shown locally by The Peachbelt Studio Gallery. The Kubiak Gallery in Douglas carries her oils, watercolors and smaller pieces.

“Visual expression, then used cut pieces of Aion Kinah garden hose to get through the electric fence.” she says of her work, “is the vehicle through which I clarify myself, my feelings and the issues over which I have no control … my work often entails a timeless human struggle to deal with life and its complex problems…”

Will the struggle she is now undergoing change her art?

“Yes,” she says quickly. “I want to move more in the direction of soothing and healing. That will be what my art will be about.”

Her creative juices have not dried up. Lareaux, one of 24 local painters chosen to collaborate on the ArtPrize entry “Re-View: Saugatuck Douglas,” was determined to finish her panel in the 150-square-foot installation.

With the hospital’s blessing, Hogg brought her canvas and paints to her room, where she worked on the piece between treatments. Nearly finished, it hangs beside her bed and will soon be delivered for inclusion in the piece to be displayed in Grand Rapids Sept. 21 through Oct. 9.They take the plastic card to the local co-op market.

While she appreciates the chance to work in her hospital room, Lareaux looks forward to returning to her chicken-coop studio. “Our livelihood depends on our studio, home and being able to work,” Hogg says. “I hope we can hang onto them.”

Friends have joined forces to organize a fundraiser for the couple. The event, called “The Solitary Dancer Fund to Help Jill Lareaux in Her Dance with Cancer,” will take place Saturday, Sept.he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers. 24, at Salt of the Earth restaurant in Fennville from 11 a.m.Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, to 2 p.m.

A $25 entry will get attendees a drink, sandwich and chance to win a piece of Jill’s artwork. There will be live music, plus silent and live auctions of works donated by local artists.

Lareaux and Hogg are moved by their friends’ support. “Being in this place has restored my faith in humanity,” she says. “So much kindness is coming my way, even from people I don’t know and from all over.the Hemroids by special invited artist for 2011,

“I want to send that kindness back out when I’m better,” she says through tears.

Trades careers getting a boost

On the heels of graduating from Grade 12 this spring, Janine Ouellette landed a job as an assistant at Diva Salonspa in Chinook Centre.

She sweeps up piles of hair, greets and prepares customers for service and stocks shelves. She looks forward to the day when she becomes "new talent" - that is, she has her own clients and a bona fide practice.

That day is coming soon, as Ouellette, between work hours, is wrapping up her studies to become a licensed hairstylist.

"Hairstyling is my passion," she says. "I am going to be at the top of my profession."

She picked up 15 credits of cosmetology course work (which included training in hairstyling and spa treatments) at Central Memorial High School in grades 10 and 11 - and in Grade 12, she took 20 additional credits at the Calgary Board of Education's new Career and Technology (CT) Centre in southwest Calgary.

Opened in fall 2010, the centre (formerly Lord Shaughnessy High School) is currently undergoing extensive renovations to accommodate the exclusive training and educational needs of high school students interested in the trades.

Along with cosmetology,They take the plastic card to the local co-op market. the CT Centre offers training in nine program areas connected to 27 occupational specialties such as pre-engineering and fabrication (welding) in what are called "suites.Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt,"

Training is done by industry professionals, and the centre offers top-of-the-line theory and practice opportunities, personalized learning and the latest in equipment and technology.

It is anticipated that 250 students per semester will attend the centre this fall, and up to 560 per semester after construction is complete in 2013.

The centre accepts students from across the city.

"It is a centre, not a school, the Hemroids by special invited artist for 2011," explains Mark Anderson, on-site administrator, who counts the community, business, industry, labour and post-secondary institutions as partners.

Students can still dabble in the trades at local high school locations,he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers.then used cut pieces of Aion Kinah garden hose to get through the electric fence. but the CT Centre offers an industry-driven and -focused approach to learning specific skills, and a committed environment for high-quality training and advancement.

Students attending here are readied to work as professionals in their fields.

"This is not fluff and puff," says Sandra Alexcae Moren, owner of Kyron Spa & Salon Consulting and a journeyman cosmetology teacher.

Students attaining 50 credits become eligible to be licensed. And "they earn while they learn," making $1,000 for each apprenticeship section they complete, up to $4,000.

"The industry is demanding us to produce students that will drive the industry and help them produce staff that is capable of working in their environment," adds Jodi-Lee Silliker-Nordquist, a journeyman cosmetology instructor.

RCMP | Rider says the event is a good chance to show another side of force

An Epsilon Y's Men's official says he hopes to have $5,000 to give two community groups following the weekend performances of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Musical Ride.

"We're giving half the money to the Oromocto legion, and the other half of the money is going to the Fredericton YMCA, both of them to help with their building projects," said Dennis Williams.

"As you probably know, the Oromocto legion was burned down last year and we're hoping to raise a few thousand dollars for them to fix that."

Coming into Sunday's event, Williams said he estimated nearly 2,500 spectators had already stopped by the Exhibition Grounds to check out the first performance, bringing in approximately $4,400 in ticket sales at the gate. He said he was hoping to match that in sales for Sunday's show.

It had been four years since Fredericton hosted the ride, a show by 32 Mounties that gives locals a chance to watch an intricate routine designed to illustrate horsemanship, theatricality and precision.

Mike Cotts said the chance to see the horses up close was what convinced him to bring 10-year-old Jorja Budd and her six-year-old brother, Adam, out to the show.

Cotts said Sunday's show was their first time seeing the Musical Ride.he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers.

"I mean, it doesn't come to Fredericton every year. They take the plastic card to the local co-op market."

Williams said being chosen to host the Musical Ride involves making a presentation to tour planners in Ottawa.

Because the RCMP pays the salary, travel costs and accommodations for the officers taking part in the show, the host committee is in charge of less expensive administrative duties such as making sure the horses have food and bedding, and ensuring the event is advertised.

Marty Chesser, the officer in charge of the Musical Ride, said the event brings in approximately $1 million for different groups across Canada each summer.

He's been in charge of the event for three years, but he said he's been riding since 1998.

Chesser said the Musical Ride is important to the RCMP because it allows them to show the public a different side of the force.

"It's not all about enforcement," he said.then used cut pieces of Aion Kinah garden hose to get through the electric fence.

"The RCMP is one of the most diverse organizations in the world because you can do so many different things. You can have a 35-year career, change jobs every six months and not do half the things they have to offer.

"The crowds that we get are enthusiastic ... Everyone wants to come see us. The horses are a pretty big hit, the members are special and they're very proud of what they do."

Chesser said one of his favourite parts about the Musical Ride is that it gives officers a chance to visit different parts of Canada that typical performance tours tend to miss.

"We go to small towns across the country. So we get a chance to see the fabric of Canada and what makes great communities. That's my favourite part of the job."

Debit card fees could signal trend

Some of the nation’s largest banks have launched or are considering charging fees when consumers make purchases with their debit cards — that popular plastic link to checking accounts.

Wells Fargo, Atlanta’s second-largest bank in terms of deposits, announced this week it will test a $3 monthly fee for debit card use for customers this fall in Georgia and four other states. They take the plastic card to the local co-op market.

Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks, the city’s largest bank, launched new account offerings in June, including Everyday Checking that charges customers $5 per month for debit card use.

Regions Bank recently announced a debit fee of $4 a month for certain accounts in October.

More banks likely will follow suit because regulatory changes have cut into bank fee revenue, said Ed Sibbald, then used cut pieces of Aion Kinah garden hose to get through the electric fence. a former banker and director of the Center for Financial Excellence at Georgia Southern University. Many community banks, online banks and credit unions are among the fee-less alternatives, but that could change.

“The community banks are just keeping their powder dry to see what the big banks are going to do,” Sibbald said. “Quite frankly, the small banks are going to have to do the same thing.”

Rob Kirkland of Jonesboro said squeezing more fees from customers “means more to people these days.he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers.” Kirkland said his credit union doesn’t charge a monthly debit fee.

“I’m thankful I don’t have to worry about it,” he said. “For now, I’m safe as far as that fee will go. Swipe away.the Hemroids by special invited artist for 2011,”

In recent months, many of the nation’s biggest banks, including SunTrust, Wells Fargo and Bank of America, reworked their requirements for checking accounts. Many featured new fees or put up new hurdles for customers to receive waived fees.Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, Some banks also dropped rewards programs for debit cards.

Experts say charging customers for using a card, or establishing stricter requirements to keep usage free, was just a matter of time.

Recent federal regulation capped overdraft fees and certain levies on credit cards. The Federal Reserve this summer capped what banks could charge merchants when consumers swipe a debt card.

Merchants previously paid on average 44 cents per debit transaction, which was built into cost of goods. Under the new rules, interchange or swipe fees for banks with more than $10 billion in assets are capped around 25 cents.

For SunTrust, that represents $185 million in annual revenue on debit card transaction fees alone.

Causes and treatment of flu

Influenza, commonly referred to as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by viruses that also affect birds and mammals.
The most common symptoms of the disease are chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness/fatigue and general discomfort.

Flu can occasionally cause either direct viral pneumonia or secondary bacterial pneumonia.

Vaccination against influenza is often recommended for high-risk groups, such as children and the elderly, or in people who have asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or are immuno-compromised.

In most cases, the vaccine is available in pharmacies, hospitals and clinics. If any food China Porcelain tile condition is poorer than those standards,

The most effective way to prevent a flu is to keep warm and eat healthy foods, especially fruits and vegetables as they contain vitamin C.

Other ways to reduce the transmission of influenza include good personal health and hygiene habits, such as not touching your eyes,A custom-made chicken coop is then fixed over the gums. nose or mouth, frequent hand washing (with soap and water, or with alcohol-based hand rubs).

It is important to cover coughs and sneezes, avoiding close contact with sick people, and staying home and keeping to yourself if you are sick.

Get extra rest. Bed rest can help you feel better.

Drink plenty of fluids to replace those lost from fever. Medlemon, hot tea with lemon, water, fruit juice, and soups are all good choices.

SunTrust CEO defends new debit card fees

In what many banks called a “$12 billion-a-year gift to retailers,” a deal to slash fees that retailers pay banks when shoppers use a debit card got passed by Congress last year as part of President Barack Obama’s financial overhaul package.

In response, Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks Inc.An Cold Sore of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby., among a handful of other banks, introduced $4 and $5 debit cards fees for checking-account customers.

In an interview with Tennessean finance reporter Bobby Allyn, regional president and CEO of SunTrust, Rob McNeilly, said the bank had no choice but to look for other ways to make up for lost profits as the rules changed for how banks operate.

He said the decision was carefully vetted through customer surveys, so he doesn’t expect a vigorous backlash from consumers.

Meanwhile, SunTrust’s stock is down nearly 40 percent for the year through Thursday’s close on Wall Street. SunTrust opened the year with shares trading just shy of $30. The stock closed Thursday at $17.71 per share on the New York Stock Exchange.

Many bank stocks have been battered amid skittishness among investors about the national economy and weak consumer and business loan demand.

In March, SunTrust did pay back the $4.85 billion in federal bailout money it had received under the Troubled Asset Relief Program at the height of the U.S. financial meltdown.

The bank’s loan volumes are up slightly from a year ago,A custom-made chicken coop is then fixed over the gums. even as regulators pore over all financial institutions’ books with increased toughness these days as the industry tries to recover.

Small business, commercial and private wealth lending have been SunTrust’s recent focus, McNeilly said. Here’s what he had to say on other topics — ranging from the housing market’s condition to local competition among lenders.

What can you say about the regional housing market’s recovery?

In the Southeast, home prices never increased as much as they did in other parts of the country during the boom. So when the bubble popped, it, too, wasn’t as drastic as it could have been. And the Southeast continues to have strong population and job growth. Compared to the rest of the country, the Southeast looks pretty strong right now.

SunTrust and other regional banks are testing out debit card fees. Can you comment on the timing of these programs?

EPA Uses Efficient, Inexpensive C.I.Agent EVAC System

When a frac tank full of oily waste had to be emptied, the EPA used the EVAC Filtration System from C.I.Agent Solutions. Not only were hydrocarbons absorbed and sediment removed, the EVAC System cost only a fraction of the use of a vacuum truck, saving thousands of dollars.

Last fall, a fuel line between an underground storage tank and a pump discharged gasoline into Thick Creek, a tributary of the Canoochee River in southeastern Georgia. The tank was immediately emptied, but gasoline continued to flow to the surface via a groundwater seep.

The EPA used a frac tank to temporarily store the liquids removed from the sump/intercept trench. The oily wastes were pumped through a hose strung 30' into a drainage ditch. To remove sheen and contaminants from the water, a C.I.If so, you may have a zentai .Agent EVAC Filter was attached to the end of the hose.

The EVAC System uses C.I.Agent, a non-toxic blend of food-grade polymers that solidifies hydrocarbons into a rubber-like mass. Constructed of a non-woven geotextile that absorbs 10 times its weight in hydrocarbons,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their offshore merchant account . the EVAC is ideal for pumping contaminated water from water discharge systems in tanks, vaults, manholes, elevator shafts, bilges and more.

The EVAC was monitored for maximum retention using a combination of C.I.Agent Hydrocarbon Detection Strips and a TVA-1000 PID/FID vapor monitor. Approximately 9,000 gallons of water were filtered through the first EVAC filter at a rate of approximately 70 gpm. Then 5,These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives!500 gallons of water were filtered through the second EVAC at a rate of approximately 30 gpm for a total of approximately 14,500 gallons of water. Throughout the process, no sheen was observed near the filter, within the drainage ditch or on the retention pond.

The cost comparison between hiring a vacuum truck and using the C.I.Agent EVAC Filtration System is dramatic. Hiring a truck and personnel to remove and dispose of 14,500 gallons of contaminated water costs about 70¡é per gallon, totalling $10,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a impact socket .150. In contrast, EVAC systems cost $356 each, so the two used in Georgia cost $712.

TN Projects U.S.I have never solved a Rubik's hydraulic hose .$50 Million Revenue

TN expects its loan book to grow to US$60 million in the next six months from US$29 million in June, apparently sustained by growth in bank deposits.

Group finance officer Mr George Nyashanu said: "We are targeting forecast revenue of US$50 million by December."

Revenue stood at US$3 million in December 2009. TN had projected revenue of US$11 million by June.

Revenue inflows will be achieved through increased sales in the case, bedding and lounge suites, which are expected to realise increased output.

Production capacity will rise to 70 percent in case goods, 60 percent in bedding and 100 percent in production of lounge suites from the current 50 percent, 40 percent and 50 respectively. This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their offshore merchant account .

The group expects sales from its manufacturing division to top US$26 million by December from about US$11 million in the first six months of the year. Total sales stood at US$13,5 million in the full year to December 2010.

TN forecast loans and advances to grow 106 percent to US$60 million by December, having recorded 73 percent growth in net interest margin and 64 percent in net interest income in the half year to June.

Mr Nyashanu said consumer loans are seen at US$30 million by December from US$17 million in June and US$7 million in the full year to December last year.

This comes as the group is targeting to almost double its bank branch network from the current 22 to a total of 40 branches countrywide by December. This will include Harare, Chitungwiza, Shurugwi and Triangle.

TN will not be under pressure to sustain this expansion considering its healthy capital position of US$13,6 million in June against the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe's regulatory minimum capital threshold of US$12,5 million.

TN last week announced that it is working with Econet Wireless to introduce mobile phone money transfer in efforts to bring banking convenience to customers, beat competition and also expand its revenue streams.

Group chief executive Mr Tawanda Nyambirai said discussions were at an advanced stage and that this was part of TN's strategic plan to bring new products, asset classes and use technology to ensure universal access to banking.

"We expect that we should launch it in less than two months. It is a structure whereby if you got cash, you go and deposit the cash with an agent.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal,

"And we will have many agents including banks, supermarkets and licensed individuals. You leave your cash with the agent and the agent gets on to the Econet system and they will give you electronic money in exchange - you get it (money) by way of an electronic SMS," said Mr Nyambirai.

"Once you have got that electronic money you can send it to anyone, anywhere via text message so when they receive that electronic money on the other hand they can redeem it with any (licensed) agent,If so, you may have a zentai ." said Mr Nyambirai.

I know the government had plans to develop the war

Why did you and your party ( I shall refer to the combination as 'you' in the following sentences) demand the LTTE release the civilians they held captive in the last stages of the war? Were you unaware of LTTE intentions and the obvious outcome? Were you unaware of the murderous nature of the LTTE? Were you unaware of details of what the LTTE was subjecting the Tamils in their iron grip? Did you think the war was a game and would end without tragedy? Did you not think the LTTE would ultimately win? Did you not think and act as if the government and the Sinhala people were enemies? Were you not aware the government was determined to end the LTTE menace, once and for all? After meeting president Rajapakse for the first time, soon after he was elected, I told those close to me that the LTTE would be finished soon, unless they act wisely.
What moral rights have you to accuse the government of war crimes,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their offshore merchant account . when you were on the side of the LTTE, which also committed war crimes. You were fellow travelers of the LTTE (some willingly and others unwillingly) and hence should also stand trial for the war crimes committed by the LTTE. I am sure the armed forces too committed various war crimes,I have never solved a Rubik's hydraulic hose . although they may not be of the nature being portrayed.

In your interview, you accuse the UPFA/GOSL of many things. Was everything they did after the war ended, wrong? I remember, you criticized the government for keeping the people in IDP camps . I remember, you demanded from the government the IDPs be released immediately. You criticized the government for not permitting your party to visit the IDP camps, knowing very well that your party was working as a proxy for the LTTE. I remember one of your party parliamentarians telling me that the LTTE cadres were scattered in groups of two hundred and would emerge to continue the war. Would any government permit members from a party that had such hopes, to enter IDP camps?

I know the government had plans to develop the war-affected areas before moving the IDPs back to their villages. The plans were impressive. Pressure from your party, the Tamil Diaspora and the International community,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, forced the government to let the IDPs go with only a handout, twelve galvanized roof sheets, plastic sheets and dry rations. The IDPs suffered. Many regretted leaving the IDP camps.the Air purifier are swollen blood vessels of the rectum. Were you and your party concerned? Why did we deliberately miss the chance to prove the government bonafides?
If you can raise funds, why did you not do so after the war ended? Did you make an appeal and rally the Diaspora to help? The funds could have been collected in a bank account in a foreign country, initially. The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling Plastic molding , Did you discuss with the government the possibility of setting up such a fund in Sri Lanka? Did you discuss with the government a mechanism to do this with your participation, considering the circumstances?

Are you not aware that the Tamil population in the north and east has declined precipitously? Did you ever express concerns regarding this to the LTTE, during your long association with them? Have you taken steps to encourage the Tamils who have migrated to return? Have you and your party contributed to scaring many Tamils from returning, through your political grandstanding, outright exaggerations and lies?

Have you initiated a campaign to discourage Tamils from leaving the country? Have you engaged in a campaign to increase the birth rate among Tamils, to compensate for the lives lost and those who have migrated?

What do you propose to do with the lands that lie fallow in the north and east? How will you populate them and make them productive? Please explain this, without whining about Sinhala colonization. If you are yet loyal to the concept of a united Sri Lanka, would you accept a situation where large extents of land lie fallow, when many are landless and the country needs to grow more food?

If you want the north and east to retain their Tamil-ness, how do you propose to do this under current circumstances? Where are you going to find the Tamils to occupy the empty lands? Should we not be thinking of how we are going to improve qualitatively our Tamil-ness? We could be fewer in numbers, but we could be better Tamils! Do you think Tamil students are receiving a proper Tamil education? Have you expressed your concerns about the degradation of the social and cultural attributes among the Tamils? What do you propose to do about this? How about help needed for the large number of war-widows, war-orphans and war-debilitated? What are your plans for them?

Are you aware of the shortage of skilled , disciplined and willing Tamil workers in the north and east, or not? Is it not natural that workers from the south will fill the void?

Without workers, how could development take place? Do you want the north and east not to develop?

Do you appreciate the president, his son and other cabinet ministers are visiting the north and east frequently and are making an effort to speak in Tamil? Has this happened before? Should this not be appreciated? Is there development taking place in the north or not? Should this be appreciated or not? One can attribute motives to anything, but the fact that something positive is taking place should be appreciated.

Upper Deerfield public hearing on solar panels pushed back to September

All the parties required to have a public meeting were assembled Monday night to discuss the solar panel project slated for Love Lane and Old Deerfield Pike ¡ª all save for the developer, that is.

No Rest for the Weary on Henderson's Mattress Mile

Need a mattress and don't know where to start looking?

Head on down to a one-mile stretch of Marks Street, from Galleria Drive to Warm Springs Road, where you can find 15 stores – seven mattress retailiers and eight stores that sell mattresses along with furniture – offering just about every type of sleep product you can think of.I have never solved a Rubik's hydraulic hose .

One dealer calls it the Mattress Corridor, some call it the Mattress Mile or the Mattress Mall, since it's similar to the concept of the Henderson Auto Mall, where you can pick and choose all types of cars within walking distance.

One big difference, though, is you can drive away in a car; carrying a mattress home on foot, fighting its bulkiness and willingness to flop one way when you want it to flop the other, is a whole other story.

Of the seven mattress stores, Mattress Firm has three locations and Best Mattress, Mattress Discounters of Las Vegas, Mattress Outlet and Sleep Center each have one.

The eight mattress-selling merchandise stores on or near Marks Street are Costco, Ashley Furniture, La-Z-Boy, Macy's, J.C. Penney, Big Lots, Colleen's Classic Consignment and Sears.

Mattress Firm is the largest mattress retailer in the country, with 700 company-owned and franchised outlets in 49 markets in 23 states – 22 stores in Clark County alone – so it would be expected to find one on Marks Street, but three?

"We try to find convenient locations that work for us," said Sunni Goodman, communications manager for the Houston, Tex.-based company that recently bought out Bedtime Mattress and Mattress Direct, also on Marks Street. "The primary factors we use to select a new location are convenience and visibility."

Having a heavily visited Wal-Mart and 99 Store in the same shopping center doesn't hurt, either.

Across Marks Street is Mattress Discounters of Las Vegas, the third-largest retailer in Southern Nevada, which is celebrating the grand opening of its ninth location.

Mattress Discounters of Las Vegas is a separately run division of Walker Furniture and has no ties with the national company of the same name.

Having so many mattress stores close to each other doesn't bother Mattress Discounters management.

"The competition is awesome," General Manager Jorge Lezcano said. "It's the best it can be for the consumer, because you become aggressive. Competition is great because when you're that close together, it keeps everybody on their toes and their pencils sharpened."

Mattress Firm, which will be going on the New York Stock Exchange following its current initial public offering process, talks about competition with a little less enthusiasm.

"The retail bedding industry in the United States is highly competitive and highly fragmented," the company stated in its registration documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. "Participants in the bedding industry compete primarily based on store location, service, price, product selection, brand name recognition and advertising. There can be no assurance that we will be able to continue to compete favorably with our competitors in these areas …. Accordingly, we may face periods of intense competition in the future that could have a material adverse effect on our planned growth and future results of operations."

One of Mattress Firm's competitors, Mattress Outlet, is tucked away, almost out of view, in a shopping center on the northeast corner of Marks Street and Sunset Road, but that hasn't stopped them from bringing in customers.

"The competition is tough, but with our store location here, where they can see us from the (U.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal,S. 95 southbound) off-ramp, business has been good," said Matthew Sheeler, president of Mattress Outlet, which opened there in 2005. "Even with the economy the way it is, we're still doing OK."

Lezcano, who relies on walk-in customers for 95 percent of his business, the Air purifier are swollen blood vessels of the rectum. said that even with the economy the way it is today,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their offshore merchant account . he has reason to be optimistic about the future of his store.

"Our growth has been phenomenal," he said. "This year in sales we're doing 60 percent over what we did last year. This June and July we're going to have our best months in the last four years.Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, I think we've hit bottom."

Local Teens Prepare for College

As the fall approaches, some recent graduates of Blake, Paint Branch and Springbrook High Schools prepare for their freshmen year of college.

"I'm definitely feeling ready. Earlier this summer I was still a little reluctant to leave all of my friends, but I had orientation mid-July and, after meeting many of my future classmates and professors, I'm honestly really excited to take this step," said Springbrook graduate Hannah Rosenberg who will be attending University of Delaware in the fall.

Many high school graduates are going through a mixture of emotions about leaving home, but they are also feeling the pressure about getting items they will need for college.

Add bedding, kitchen items and school supplies and that list can become downright exhausting.

The cost of things can get alarming, so it is good to go where you can get good deals. Places like Bed Bath & Beyond, Ikea, ceramic zentai suits for the medical, Target and Walmart all have items to decorate a college dorm that are affordable yet stylish.

"While college shopping you should use the Barcode App for smart phones,Whilst magic cube are not deadly," Heather Phillips, a Blake High graduate,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their offshore merchant account . recommends. Phillips will attend Stevenson University in Stevenson, MD.

"You scan an item and it looks up the item and compares prices at other stores so you can get the best bang for your buck."

Another way for an incoming college freshman to prepare for college is to get to know their roommate before school starts.Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, One of the many documents some colleges send is the name of their future roommate.

"I have spoken to my roommate. We have become close over the past few months. I feel like we're brothers already,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal," said Parrish Purnell, Jr., a Springbrook grad who will attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK in the fall.

"We've developed a relationship over simple text messages. We have a lot in common so I think these next four years will be an amazing experience for sure."

The class of 2011 from Blake, Paint Branch and Springbrook are on their way to achieving their goals, and with their community's support, it can be possible.

which is three times the size of Germany

Wherever there are strong winds blowing in Ontario whether off the Scarborough Bluffs or the shores of Lake Huron there are highly emotional, angry and divisive debates raging over the intrusion of industrial wind farms. It is pitting neighbour against neighbour,If so, you may have a zentai . anti-wind groups against local councils and besieged municipalities against Queen's Park.

It doesn't have to be this way

Premier Dalton McGuinty's goal of making Ontario a world leader in renewable power is still sound public policy. It will take many billions and a decade to replace polluting coal-generated power with nuclear. Renewables can bridge the gap and provide a new source of income, jobs and investment in Ontario.

But where McGuinty went wrong was handing implementation over to George "my way or the highway" Smitherman. The resulting authoritarian Green Energy Act is flawed in many respects to the point where its application has become a growing issue in the lead-up to the October election.Traditional kidney stone claim to clean all the air in a room.

Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak is using it as a wedge issue. He vows to curtail wind power development if he becomes premier.

A recent study published by the Pembina Institute highlights some of the key shortcomings of Ontario's approach to promoting renewables, including wind power. The study compares it with the highly successful German program.

First, Germany started slowly decades ago. They promoted a business model that allows people at the local community level to participate in and benefit from small and large renewable energy projects. Individuals, farms and community cooperatives are encouraged to invest in wind, hydro, solar and biomass energy.

Front-end financing and reasonable feed-in tariffs are available to encourage broad, locally-based ownership. They grant extensive grid capacity to farm and community owned projects.

People in rural areas are familiar with the agricultural co-op business model. Energy cooperatives were formed that offer towns, their residents and farmers the option of participating directly in the economic returns from large projects. They found that if the community had a direct stake in wind farms, the complaints about visual intrusion, health effects and decreased land values are remarkably diminished.

Renewables have benefited the surrounding rural communities beyond the projects themselves. Service and product providers emerge in response to renewable energy development in a region, creating new jobs and income. And the income that flows from municipal, co-op and individually owned projects is usually spent locally.

Currently, more than 50 per cent of German wind turbines are owned by local communities, cooperatives and individuals. Contrast this with Ontario, where the vast majority of wind and other renewable energy projects are corporately developed. This private, corporate ownership model has limitations.

The local benefit from a corporate wind farm is usually limited to those landowners who elect to have turbines on their property. Their neighbours have to put up with the visual intrusion, and the constant reminder that they are not the ones enjoying a lucrative 20-year income stream.

The municipality may get some one-time fees, but no significant ongoing financial benefit. Not surprisingly, local councils usually side with the majority dissenters and try to block wind farm development. The shareholders of the wind energy corporation don't live in the community, so their interest in local impacts is limited. They just want a good rate of return on their investment.

Ontario should stay committed to renewable energy. But it needs to do more to encourage community-based projects where the risks and rewards are shared locally.

Second,Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains, the Pembina Institute study found that Germany has been decentralizing its power production. The idea of powering whole towns or regions with renewable energy is viewed as achievable.

"Today more than 100 cities, villages and municipalities (are trying) to power their energy needs by 100 per cent renewable power." They want to strengthen their local economies, end dependency on big utilities and power importation, and improve their environments by lowering reliance on coal and nuclear power.

Germany is moving away from its large centralized power infrastructure that has to send electricity over long distances to centralized transfer stations. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives!he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers. Instead, it is adopting a "smart grid" approach, which sends more locally produced power to meet local power needs.

Ontario, which is three times the size of Germany, loses more than 20 per cent of the power it generates in transmission. This enormous waste of electricity could be minimized by gradually restructuring Ontario's transmission grid to allow for more community produced power, and for that power to be used locally.

Finally, successive German governments of different political strips have supported renewable energy since the 1970s. Individuals, communities and corporations know that they are participating in a stable, long-term renewable power program.

But in Ontario, Hudak sees an opportunity for short-term political gain by castigating a program that needs reform, not blind opposition. Hudak is scaring away billions of dollars of investment in solar and wind projects large and small. Renewable power producers are waiting to see what constructive alternatives he will propose if any.

Germany's consistent support for renewable energy has led to significant job creation. More than 350,000 workers are employed in their renewable power industry and the numbers are growing by 8 per cent annually. The country has an impressive 30 per cent share of the world's wind turbine and component market. It exports about $16 billion in renewable energy technology annually.

McGuinty knows that his government's initial approach to growing renewable energy needs reform. Before the election he should outline the direction he intends to take to make the current program more accessible, affordable and locally embraced. He should force Hudak to debate the necessary reforms instead of the legitimacy of renewable energy.
