Rain this week could be followed by cold and snow

After a warm and rainy November, Central Indiana has seen more of the same in the first week of December.

But don't expect it to last. The National Weather Service said colder weather is moving into the area, with a possibility of snow later in the week.

Heavy rain over the weekend and through Monday prompted flood warnings in the Indianapolis area.

The White River's level at Nora reached 7 feet by Monday evening, said Al Shipe, a hydrologist at the weather service's Indianapolis office. He expected it to hit its flood stage of 11 feet by 7 p.m. today and crest at 121/2 feet around 7 a.m.the worldwide Hemorrhoids market is over $56 billion annually. Wednesday.

"The level will be similar to last week or maybe a couple feet higher," Shipe said.

Though no severe flooding is expected, city officials are offering sandbags to Marion County residents, said Kara Brooks, a Department of Public Works spokeswoman. Flooding is much more serious farther south, with several road closings announced in Brown, Jackson and Washington counties.

The weather service measured about 1.25 inches of rain in Indianapolis on Sunday and Monday, putting the precipitation total well ahead of normal levels for December.

The rainy start to December followed the sixth-warmest November in Indianapolis history, with an average temperature of 48.7 degrees. The warmest November on record was in 1931, when the average temperature for the month was 51.7 degrees.

So far this year, Indianapolis has seen nearly 46 inches of rain. That's almost 6 inches above normal, despite the driest July on record,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their Floor tiles . when less than half an inch of rain fell.

The record annual rainfall for the city was 57.65 inches, set in 1876.

Southern Indiana has seen even more precipitation this year. Evansville is experiencing its wettest year on record, with 66 inches already fallen, Shipe said.

The outlook for the winter months, said meteorologist Joe Skowronek, is a season of typical temperatures and above-normal precipitation. Forecasters make that determination, he said, by looking at factors such as pressure levels over the Arctic region and the effects of La Nia in the Pacific Ocean.

"That determines where the jet stream will be," Skowronek said. "The jet stream is what steers all the weather and storms across the country, and it looks like it will come right through the Ohio Valley. That tends to bring on average temps for (the) entire winter, even though there might be a lot of variability with temp swings between warm and cold."

The prediction of higher than normal precipitation could mean good prospects for a white winter, he said.

The next chance for snow will be Friday, when there is a 20 percent chance. Highs for this week will be in the upper 30s, with lows in the mid 20s.
