Just over five months since heavy rainfall caused the roof at Irina’s Restaurant and Bar to collapse, the place, at 2301 Rocklyn Drive in Urbandale, is almost ready to reopen.
Owners Irina Khartchenko and Dmitri Iakoviev are planning a soft opening next Tuesday, Nov. 22. A grand reopening is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday, with drink specials and wine tasting on the agenda.
The place was a disaster after a downpour June 9. The ceiling tiles fell and electrical wires looped down throughout the bar area, water saturated the walls, floors buckled, furniture warped and some of the equipment shorted out. The restaurant was not only disabled — the mess meant as many as 11 employees were out of a job, including husband and wife Khartchenko and Iakoviev.
