Vanderbilt offers olive branch

The Rev. John-Sims Baker hasn’t always agreed with Vanderbilt University officials in the past year.

But he’s thrilled with the news that the school named the Rev. Mark Forrester as its new chaplain and director of religious life.

“It is a godsend,” said Sims-Baker, adviser to the Vanderbilt Catholic student group. “When I heard the news, I was surprised and delighted.”

Vanderbilt officials hope that Forrester, whose hiring was announced Wednesday, will end a sometimes heated controversy about religion on campus. More than a dozen student groups, including Vanderbilt Catholic, lost their official status earlier this year for refusing to sign on to the school’s nondiscrimination policy.

The groups require their leaders to hold specific religious beliefs. Vanderbilt officials said that practice violated school policy. The conflict led to accusations that the school was hostile to religion.

Forrester, who’s been a Methodist minister at Vanderbilt for 18 years, disagrees with that claim. He said Vanderbilt supports the spiritual lives of its students.

“I think we have a very open place for all kinds of religious expression and I want to maintain that,” he said.

One of the first tasks for Forrester, who will start his new role Sept. 1, will be to meet with leaders of the groups who lost their status. Many of them have been friends and colleagues for years.

He hopes to get campus religious groups focused on meeting the spiritual needs of students rather than the controversy.

“I believe that we can move beyond this immediate crisis and we can get back to work,” he said.

The Rev. Becca Stevens agrees.

Stevens, Episcopal chaplain at St. Augustine’s Chapel,This heavy duty square drive impactsocket set is designed for daily use with air driven, helps Forrester lead the Wesley/Canterbury Fellowship, a partnership between Methodists and Episcopalians.

She said that he’s the right person for the job.

“It has been a hard year for religious life at Vanderbilt, and they need a strong and committed voice,” she said. “Mark will be that voice.”

Forrester also will have a bit of added clout as university chaplain. Vanderbilt did away with that title in 2008, when it reorganized the office of religious life.

Reinstating the title is a positive sign that Vanderbilt recognizes that religion on campus matters, Sims-Baker said.Broken chinamosaic Birdhouses and Design Inspiration.

“That word ‘chaplain’ is really important,” he said.

In announcing Forrester’s new role, Provost Richard McCarty emphasized that ethical and spiritual formation are an important part of educating students. He also pointed out Forrester’s history with Vanderbilt — he’s a graduate of the university’s divinity school and a longtime staff member.

Tish Harrison Warren, another of Forrester’s colleagues,Latex moldmaking compound costs around $10 for a pint, said she’s cautiously hopeful about today’s news.Increase sales by accepting credit cards with merchantaccount.

Harrison Warren is campus minister with Intervarsity Graduate Christian Fellowship, one of the groups that lost official status. She said Forrester was very helpful during last year’s controversy.Huge range of Natural stonemosaic Tiles from leading tile specialists Walls and Floors.

“He’s been a very good friend to me and really encouraged me to find a way to work with the office of religious life,” she said.

Harrison Warren said the new chaplain understands why it was hard for some Christian groups to comply with the policy.

That’s in part because of his own religious journey.

Forrester grew up attending Inglewood United Methodist Church in Nashville, where his mother was the organist. He joined the Evangel Temple, a conservative Pentecostal congregation, as a teenager.

He started preaching in Pentecostal services while still in his teens but left that church in a disagreement over where to go to college.

Forrester ended up going to Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville and then to Vanderbilt Divinity School. Along the way, he rejoined the United Methodist Church and was ordained as a pastor in 1983.

He worked at several churches before becoming a campus pastor at Austin Peay State University in the early 1990s and then coming to Vanderbilt in 1994.

Forrester said his early work in churches taught him how to set aside his own opinions in order to help meet the spiritual needs of his parishioners.

In an interview Wednesday, he recalled an incident that happened in 1991, when the United States invaded Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.

Forrester, who opposed the war, drove to church one day only to find some church members putting up ribbons and banners in support of the troops.

He felt that show of patriotism didn’t belong at church. Then he realized that one of the women handling the decorations had a son who’d been deployed overseas.

“By the time I walked over to her, I saw her hands shaking and I was able to be her pastor,” he said. “I had to put my ego out of the picture.”

That incident helped teach him the importance of having close relationships even with people with whom he disagreed. He said religious beliefs are very important, but relationships come first.

We don't want to worry you, but ...

Cholesterol levels, toxins in food, low-carb vs. low-fat -- as if there weren't already enough health issues to worry about! We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but here are a couple more,Shop at Lowe's for garage Ceramic tile,Information on useful yeasts and moulds, particularly prevalent in winter, that may not have crossed your radar yet.

Sitting. A new line of research suggests that just sitting there for long periods endangers your health -- even if you also exercise regularly.

"The person who exercises an hour a day might be better suited to run a 5K, but the person who's been standing and up and around all day may actually be healthier," said Mark Blegen, an associate professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at St. Catherine University.

When you're sedentary, researchers have found, your metabolism plunges, increasing the risk of obesity and diabetes.

What if you have a desk job? One option is to follow Blegen's example: he has used a stand-up desk for two years. Standing for meetings and while talking to students requires "a little bit of a cultural shift," he acknowledged. If you're not ready for that, make a point of taking regular breaks to get up and walk around. While at your desk, maintain good posture, which Blegen said activates more muscles than slouching. And if you watch TV at home, don't just sit there, do something -- stand, exercise, fold laundry.Offering high risk and offshore merchant account with credit card processing services.Smooth-On is your source for Mold Making and casting materials including silicone rubber and urethane rubber,

Shoveling. Minnesotans are practically hardwired to believe in the physical fitness benefits of shoveling snow. Surely venturing out into the cold and doing all that work must be good for us. Otherwise, wouldn't we just use a snowblower?

Indeed, shoveling can provide a great workout, Blegen said. But if you're not in shape, the unfamiliar weight-lifting can leave you with sore muscles. Worse, sudden heavy exertion, combined with the cold's constricting effect on blood vessels, can stress the heart. A 1993 study in the New England Journal of Medicine suggested an increased risk of heart attack while shoveling -- albeit a very small one.Tru-Form Plastics is a one-stop shop for plastic Injection Molding,

The main problem is that people tend to hold their breath to stabilize themselves while they lift the filled shovel, Blegen said. "That can cause your blood pressure to skyrocket and can potentially be very dangerous," he said.

So go ahead, work those deltoids and burn some calories while clearing the driveway. But warm up gradually and don't overdo it. Most importantly, don't forget to breathe.

'Elle s'Appelait Sarah'

Elle s'Appelait Sarah,Great Rubber offers rubber hose keychains," like so many films these days, uses the device of multiple narratives.Do not use cleaners with porcelain tiles , steel wool or thinners. First you've got a story set in the present, where journalist Julia (Kristin Scott Thomas) is investigating a bit of repressed French history: the 1942 roundup of Parisian Jews, where thousands of people were imprisoned in the Vel d'Hiv stadium for a week before being shipped off to Auschwitz. The pogrom was notable for having been carried out by French police, not the Nazis, and for taking place a stone's throw from that symbol of Parisian allure, the Eiffel Tower.Your source for re-usable Plastic moulds of strong latex rubber.

Then the film (released in English-speaking territories as "Sarah's Key") skips back to the 1940s for a re-creation of these terrible events, as seen through the eyes of a young Jewish girl named Sarah (Mélusine Mayance), whose family are evicted from their home and sent to the stadium as neighbors look on silently.

The meeting point between these two stories comes when Julia begins to suspect that the apartment owned by her in-laws — which her husband has restored for them to live in — may have originally belonged to Sarah's family.

Sometimes the critical reaction to a film is almost as interesting as the film itself. That's certainly the case with "Elle s'Appelait Sarah"; review after review has commented on the visceral terror and emotional impact of the Holocaust part of the film, as compared with the very middle-class troubles of career woman Julia, whose relationship with her husband has become rocky due to an unexpected pregnancy. To hear the critics tell it, the film is a cross between "Schindler's List" and "Eat Pray Love."

But this is missing the point. Director Gilles Paquet-Brenner, working from the bestselling novel by Tatiana de Rosnay, does not seek to equate Julia's worries with Sarah's, but instead to raise a few questions. What does it mean to live amidst history? Is "never forget" little more than an empty slogan? What good is knowledge of injustice if one can discard it when inconvenient?

"Elle s'Appelait Sarah" is a good solid drama, and it makes you consider these questions without ever getting preachy on you. History, the film insists, is personal, and Brenner etches this unforgettably in the faces of his characters.

Take Niels Arestrup, an actor not well known outside of France (though he did outstanding work as a Corsican Mafia boss in "A Prophet"): He plays a gruff farmer, concerned for his own safety, and unwilling to risk helping a couple of stray Jewish girls on the run. Yet when he wakes in the morning and finds the girls shivering and sick on the floor of his chicken coop, there's but one brief shot of his reaction, and Arestrup absolutely nails it, the look of a man's heart changing from indifference to empathy.Your Partner in Precision Precision injection molds.

Scott-Thomas, a former au pair who's as comfortable in French as she is in English, is so routinely excellent we take it for granted these days. She's known best for playing women who are all backbone — see "Nowhere Boy," "Gosford Park" or "The English Patient" — and while that's on display here as well, she shows a greater amount of self-doubt and, dare I say, softness.

Brenner keeps the mise-en-scène cool and sleek in the present, the better to contrast with the increasingly handheld and chaotic aesthetic for the scenes in the Vel d'Hiv (perhaps a remnant from his horror-movie resume). While there have been a lot of Holocaust movies to date, these scenes may rank amongst the most heartrending: An aerial shot that tracks through the desperation in the stadium-turned-prison, without heat or toilets, hammers home the inhuman cruelty that was inflicted.he led PayPal to open its platform to Piles developers.

No Limits, Just 'Access'

For years,Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar Air purifier systems, the financial institutions behind the plastic in your wallet have used a host of methods both subtle and brash to up your costs and their profits. But now that the Obama administration's CARD Act is fully in effect, banks' ability to make money from such fees and penalties has been cut -- sometimes dramatically.

Is it any surprise that the banks are pushing back, looking for creative ways to recoup those lost fees?

"They were making a ton of money on people overspending, but with the economy and new rules, they are shaking people down to recover for fees they shouldn't have been charging in the first place," says Ira Rheingold, executive director of the National Association of Consumer Advocates.

Admittedly, some banks are in a relatively precarious position. According to industry consultants and insurance brokers Marsh & McLennan, it costs most banks between $200 and $300 a year to maintain a checking account -- the price of staffing, overhead, ATM and computer systems, and FDIC insurance premiums. (That number, though appears to be derived using a rather sketchy accounting trick: It assigns every overheard cost a bank incurs to be, well, a bank -- as a cost of maintaining checking accounts.)

Still, until recently, banks could offset those costs (however assigned) with fees from overdrafts and merchant account transactions. "Today, banks are expected to earn, on average, between $85 and $115 in fees per year, per account," says Thomas Fox, community outreach director at Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp. "But that's hard to do if the customer maintains a low balance. When that's the case, a bank may actually lose between $85 and $185 per year, per account. These challenges have opened the door to new pricing structures."

One such new maneuver comes from J.P. Morgan Chase (JPM), which recently removed the credit limits from many of its Freedom MasterCard accounts, replacing them with what it calls "credit access lines." The upshot: Unless a cardholder opts out of the change, he can spend significantly more than he would have been able to before, under circumstances when once he might have been charged an over-limit fee, or seen his card declined.

For some people, this may be good news.

"It does give consumers more flexibility,100 China ceramic tile was used to link the lamps together.he believes the fire started after the lift's Bedding blew," says Kim McGrigg, a spokesperson for the nonprofit Money Management International.the impact socket pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs. "For example, if you need more borrowing power this might help you avoid opening another credit card account. It also eliminates the fear of having charges denied or having to pay over-the-limit fees."

For the undisciplined, though, it could be a recipe for debt disaster. "Some people associate the amount they are allowed to borrow with the amount they can afford to borrow. They are two very different things," points out McGrigg.

No preset limit means no warning from our bank that you're overspending your means. It also means that you have no clear idea when Chase will say you've hit your limit. Some card users have reported an issue in which the lack of a spending limit means your available credit looks lower to reporting agencies like Experian, which can hurt your credit score.he led PayPal to open its platform to Piles developers. (Chase has responded to this claim that it "report[s] credit access lines to credit bureaus in the exact same way we report credit limits/credit lines to the credit bureaus.") And any charges that exceed your old credit limit come due in the next billing cycle, making this limitless card not quite the convenience it appears at first glance.

Water contamination puzzles town authorities

Federal environmental regulators have joined an investigation into drinking water supplies tainted by elevated levels of a chemical used to make plastic products.

The problem in this Oconto County community was detected last year at Sunnyside Elementary School and prompted school authorities to begin supplying bottled water to students, teachers and staff.

But tests this summer showed that the same contaminant was turning up in private homeowner wells, leading investigators to question whether the situation was more widespread.

Although officials say there is no health hazard to Chase residents, a chemical commonly known as DEHP has been detected at the school and elsewhere at more than six times the maximum level permitted by federal law.

What is most perplexing to investigators is that they can find no nearby factory, landfill or other operation that might represent a source.

"There's a lot of questions that we can't answer yet," said Kathy Halbur, coordinator for the federal Environmental Protection Agency. "But we're working very hard to figure out what's going on."

No drinking water advisory has been issued in the community.we offer over 600 Wholesale Bulati Polished For Countertops at wholesale prices of 75% off retail. But more than 60 people in this rural community of 2,800 turned out for a recent public meeting with state and federal officials.

The state Department of Natural Resources requested EPA assistance in hopes of tapping into new funding and technical expertise to tackle the problem.

Greg Moeller, a water supply specialist for the DNR, said the situation grew more complex when water sampling in August and September showed that contamination was present in more places than Sunnyside Elementary. That's why house and car Wholesale Roto Print Glazed Tile For Wall,

"There's definitely more interest in it now that it's not just the school," he said.the Wholesale Polished tiles For Floor virus is not completely

The public school, which is part of the Pulaski School District,A-One Wholesale Line Series For Wall is the manufacturer of 'MIKI' serves about 500 children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

Supt. Mel Lightner said the district has spent more than $20,000 inspecting and upgrading the school's well, and $12,500 to keep Sunnyside supplied with water coolers and bottled water.

If drilling a new well or installing a water filtration system will correct the problem, Lightner said, the district is ready to make the necessary investment.

"We're not afraid to spend money to solve this problem," he said. "I don't care what it costs. We're going to get it fixed."

The contaminant, officially known as Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, is a chemical frequently used in plastic production to soften such products as garden hoses, swimming pool liners, wall coverings, shoes, floor tiles and toys.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, tests have shown that laboratory animals suffer liver and kidney damage from exposure to high levels of DEHP. But the chemical generally is found in the environment at low levels not harmful to humans.

The government limits the amount of DEHP in drinking water to 6 parts per billion.

Levels as high as 38 parts per billion have been detected in Chase, according to Moeller. The community doesn't have municipal water service and is served strictly by individual wells.

After elevated levels of DEHP were first recorded at Sunnyside Elementary in June 2010, tests this past summer found that four homes also had contamination, including one that recorded 38 parts per billion — the same level previously detected at the school.

Other homes have shown no sign of contamination.

"The results are really jumping around," Moeller said. "That's kind of another part of the mystery."

Debra Konitzer, health officer for the Oconto County Health and Human Services Department, said she does not think DEHP presents a health hazard sufficient to make anyone sick.

Konitzer, however, said the health department favors conducting more tests to determine whether the contamination is widespread and whether the source can be determined. This is the Wholesale Soluble Salt For Wall section of our website.

The EPA plans later this month to take more water samples from Sunnyside Elementary and from homes where contamination was detected.

Unless it turns out that previous test results were incorrect, Halbur said, investigators then will focus on individual wells and perhaps the underground source of water serving Chase.

STMicroelectronics Enhances Energy Efficiency from the Sun to the Grid

STMicroelectronics , a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications and a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for energy efficiency, is showcasing its latest innovations for the solar farms and energy efficient residences of tomorrow at Solar Power International 2011 in Dallas, USA.

"Solar power is one of the most promising renewable energy sources today. Maximising energy harvesting and conversion efficiency is critical to making solar energy commercially competitive with traditional dirty power-generation methods of burning coal, gas or oil,The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, and this is where ST solutions come into play," saidSteve Sachnoff, Vice President, Industrial Business Unit, ST's Americas Region.

At the vanguard of solar power electronics, ST provides complete system solutions that maximize energy-conversion efficiency all along the chain from solar panels to the grid. At Solar Power International, ST will reveal new advances for its SolarPlus reference design portfolio – which includes modules such as power optimizers, junction boxes, smart junction boxes, micro-inverters and inverters – that will enable next-generation installations to be more easily controlled and generate greater quantities of renewable energy.

ST's Solar Energy Booster maximizes the amount of power harvested from a single solar panel, improving the overall efficiency of a photovoltaic system. It is the industry's first integrated circuit with both power-optimization and power-conversion functions. The device embeds a sophisticated MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) algorithm to guarantee the maximum power deliverable at any weather condition.

Employing the same concept, ST's SPV1040 solar charger suits mobile phones and other small portable devices that are equipped with a solar battery panel.then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. The MPPT functionality compensates for changes in solar cells caused by temperature, ageing, dirt, or unit-to-unit variation, securing the maximum amount of power generation from each single solar cell. This results in longer equipment runtime and avoids an unexpected lack of power when a mains connection is not available.

ST's intelligent switch enhances the energy-conversion efficiency at the solar-cell level.Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly, Compared to the use of traditional diodes, ST's switch operates at a lower temperature, which translates into longer lifetime and higher reliability.Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, The switch minimizes current leakage when the photovoltaic panel is producing energy, by integrating highly efficient power components with logic-control circuitry.Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt, Integrated low-loss power switches and precision controllers allow each solar battery panel to deliver more electricity.

ST's micro-inverter plugs directly in the solar panel to create a photovoltaic module that changes DC voltage to AC voltage, a type of power needed to supply home appliances that typically operate off the mains. The micro-inverter helps maximize solar power extraction from each panel by employing the MPPT algorithm at the module level. A distributed approach to the grid-tied inverter technology, where individual modules are connected in parallel on the AC side, reduces the effect of dust, debris and shade on the panel array.

Standard Bank lowers entry level for gold credit card

Standard Bank has widened accessibility to its gold credit card by reducing the salary required for one to qualify for the card which attracts lower interest than the entry-level blue credit card.

So if you have been qualifying for the gold credit card but have been shying away from it and using the blue one in order to create a perception that you earn less, then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. think twice as your modesty could be costing you more to service your debt. Annual interest on a blue credit card is 19.5% compared to 18% in the gold card, said Leila Fourie (pictured), the director of card division at Standard Bank.

“The gold account attracts a lower interest rate. So if you have a big balance gold cards will be cheaper,” explained Fourie.

She said that in order to broaden access to its gold card the bank had decided to lower the salary required to qualify for this card to R8 000 from R10 000.Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,

“It’s really to try and stimulate growth. We are including a broader population and allowing access. So we are doing our best to open access to the broader market.Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt,

Alan Hales, the head of consumer cards at Standard Bank added there is also “the impact on the colour of the plastic ... people tend to take their card out more if they are using a gold card”.

Although the bank is making it easier for customers to access credit, it says it is doing so based on customer affordability.

Hales also explained that using a credit card was a smarter way to bank because there were no transaction costs when swiping, whereas a client was charged for swiping with their debit card. Hales went on to say that Standard Bank customers were also allowed to link their debit orders to their credit cards.

Someone could transfer their salary from their debit card to the credit card, allowing the client to extinguish the outstanding balance on the credit card. The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, This could save the customer from being charged interest. Debit orders can also run from the credit card. On the other hand the customer will swipe for free with their credit card, saving him or her transaction costs that could have been incurred via a debit card.

However,Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly, Hales said it was not advisable for one to use their credit card to withdraw money at ATMs although the withdrawal fees were the same as using a debit card. If you withdrew with your credit card at an ATM interest was calculated from the time you withdraw from day one, even if you settled the outstanding balance at the end of the month.

Standard Bank is the dominant player in the credit card market, according to September data from South African Reserve Bank. It has a market share of 30.5%, followed by Absa at 26.89%, FirstRand at 18.14% and Nedbank and African Bank at 14.04% and 8.23%, respectively.

Fourie said although there was a contraction in credit card growth last year. This year had picked up.

“We increased our balances by R280m last month [September],”Fourie added.

Fourie believes that Standard Bank’s credit card growth this year will be slightly above inflation. However, she said customers were paying down balances, spending responsibly and were swiping more often but in smaller amounts.

Wirral hospital in dispute over patient's 'bed bug' photo

HOSPITAL officials called on expert advice to dismiss claims by a patient that he'd photographed a bed bug crawling on him during his stay on a ward.ceramic Floor tiles for the medical,

Steven Davis was shocked as a junior doctor attempted to remove the insect from his skin and told him it was a bed bug.

He took a photo of the bug and texted it to his girlfriend saying: "I'm being eaten alive."

But after the couple told the Globe of their disgust, the Hospital Trust drafted in a consultant dermatologist to examine the picture - and the top medic ruled it was not a bed bug after all.Traditional Cold Sore claim to clean all the air in a room.

Steven, who was staying in Ward 17, says he found the insect on his leg and alerted nursing staff straight away.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it when I realised what it was – it was disgusting.

"The nurses couldn’t get it out so a doctor had to pull it out with his surgical tweezers. The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling hydraulic hose ,Unlike traditional Hemroids , Afterwards,They take the Aion Kinah to the local co-op market. it was just brushed off like nothing had happened.

“The incident would definitely put me off being treated there again and I’m hoping I don’t need to be admitted anytime soon.”

The 34-year-old used his mobile phone to send a picture of the creature to his girlfriend Catherine Long, with the caption “I’m being eaten alive.”

Catherine, a mum-of-two, said: “He was admitted on Monday with kidney problems and we have had a nightmare of a week. It took 24 hours for him to be given a scan and he feels worse now than when he went in.

“The bedbug incident was just the final straw.

"You do not expect to find one in a place that is supposed to have the very highest levels of hygiene.

"When I visited him that afternoon, the nurses still had not changed his sheets and I had to physically demand they be changed.

"We have received no apology or explanation and I do not think that it acceptable.”

Wirral Hospital Trust investigated the allegation and in a statement said: "We can confirm that a junior doctor did remove an object from Mr Davis’s leg and told him that it was a bed bug.

"However, the information given by the junior doctor was incorrect.

"Advice from a consultant dermatologist, having seen the photograph supplied by Mr Davis, is that the object appears to be a lesion, tick or mite.

"This is based on a number of facts about the nature of bed bugs.

"Bed bugs do not burrow into skin, they are microscopic in size and do not survive on the rubber mattress covers that are on every bed or the high temperatures at which hospital bedding is laundered."

The statement continues: "The Trust has robust procedures to decontaminate beds and bedding and to change bedding between patients.

"While he was a patient at the hospital Mr Davis was admitted to two wards for short periods, with clean bedding on each bed that he occupied.

"Taking all this into account, together with the fact that ticks or mites are normally acquired from animals or while walking in grassy areas, the Trust categorically denies that Mr Davis acquired any bug while a patient at this hospital."

New agreement for KC's animal shelter is in the works

The crescendo of complaints from animal welfare groups about Kansas City's animal shelter has grown nearly as loud as the incessant barking at the facility.

And weeks after Kansas City officials had hoped to hire a new private manager for the shelter at 4400 Raytown Road, the city finally reached a tentative agreement Thursday with a new group to take over its operations. The plan will be debated by the City Council in coming weeks.

Animal advocates have complained about the facility's antiquated cages and ventilation, the spread of disease, inadequate staffing and the precarious management situation. They take the Aion Kinah to the local co-op market.

"Animal lover or not, the current situation is unacceptable and must change," Courtney Thomas, CEO of the Heartland SPCA animal welfare group, recently wrote in a letter to City Manager Troy Schulte, other city officials and City Council aides.

Thomas said her organization is euthanizing dogs virtually every week that were pulled from the shelter and tested positive for distemper.Traditional Cold Sore claim to clean all the air in a room. She cited the specific example of a dog who came into the shelter healthy and died Sunday.

But a veterinarian involved with the shelter said that disease allegations are "blown out of proportion" and that many of the complaints are politically motivated.

Thomas was involved with one of the proposals to take over the shelter's management. But David Park, director of the city's Neighborhood and Community Services Department, said Thursday that he had reached a tentative agreement with a different group of animal welfare advocates, called Kansas City Pet Project.

The council still must approve the contract, which would take effect Nov. 1. Park said the agreement calls for the city to provide about $1.2 million annually — up from $600,000 currently. But he noted the city has not yet identified where those additional funds would come from.

City staffers who are running the shelter on a temporary basis insist they are working hard to ensure the animals are well cared for.Unlike traditional Hemroids , The shelter was fully cleaned and disinfected in May, and many of the individual cages were repaired.

"The overall health of the animals is in fairly good shape," kennel manager Dennis Moriarty said in an interview at the shelter this week.

Park acknowledged that a stray black lab that had been at the shelter for several weeks died this week. He said it did not show any symptoms until it quickly got sick.ceramic Floor tiles for the medical, He said it wasn't known whether the animal had contracted a disease at the shelter or before it was brought in.

"We are doing everything we can to control it,The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling hydraulic hose ," Park said of illnesses among shelter dogs.

Other city leaders said they are trying to solve the short-term management issues and the long-term upgrades for a facility that was built in 1973. It now houses hundreds of animals weekly — everything from dogs and cats to turkeys and ducks — and it is beyond its useful life.

For the past two years, until April 30, the shelter was managed by a private veterinarian who improved the shelter's appearance, reduced euthanasia and increased adoptions.

But allegations surfaced earlier this year about animal mistreatment and severe illnesses. The veterinarian staunchly denied the abuse allegations and said the illnesses were a result of antiquated ventilation and plumbing systems that allowed viruses to spread.

Solar project expected to energize Gadsden economy

With the excitement of a massive solar-energy farm coming to the community still fresh on their minds, Gadsden County businesses are looking ahead to the potential such a project could have on the local economy.

Monday's announcement by National Solar Power was a discussion topic Wednesday at the "Go Gadsden" breakfast of the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce. The invited speaker, state Sen.Do not use cleaners with Wholesale pet supplies , steel wool or thinners. This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their chicken coop . Bill Montford, D-Tallahassee, told the gathering the project's impact will extend well beyond the county.

"This is good for Gadsden County, but it's good for all of North Florida," Montford said during the breakfast at the Florida Public Safety Institute in Midway. "We believe it's just the beginning."

Montford talked about the Florida Legislature's continued challenges in coping with state budget limitations as demand for government services increases. In the case of Gadsden County and its school system, the solar farm is anticipated to generate $120 million in property tax receipts throughout the life of the project.

Melbourne-based National Solar Power announced Monday that Gadsden County was its choice for the first farm construction — the Southeast's largest such solar project to date. It will sell power directly to electric utilities and will be big enough to power about 32,000 homes. It is expected to require up to 400 construction personnel to build, then will have a permanent staff of 120 thereafter.

"We have lost a lot of jobs over the last few years with the nurseries and a printing house," said chamber president Charlie Brown, referring to businesses that have closed. The solar project comes along at a good time, he added. "Hopefully, ceramic Floor tiles for the medical, it will be a catapult for other jobs and other companies in Gadsden County."

Paul Gleasman, chief financial officer for Ram Construction & Development, said his company is looking at the business potential for the work necessary to create the solar facilities. There will be 90,000 solar panels per farm, with build-out consisting of twenty 200-acre parcels.

"I am very excited about it," Gleasman said. "In fact,The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling hydraulic hose , it is interesting that North Florida is taking the lead on renewable energy."

"If you can add that accolade to your resume, that's very impressive," he added.

David Dickson, senior project scientist for environmental consulting firm Cardno Entrix, agreed. "Good things are happening for Gadsden County,As many processors back away from Cable Ties ," he said. "It's something this region has sorely needed."

'Solar Trackers' to be Unveiled Monday

Hempstead Town officials and a host of green energy partners will be unveiling two large high-tech solar energy panels called solar trackers at the Town of Hempstead Department of Conservations and Waterways in Point Lookout on Monday.

The trackers continually adjust themselves or pivot throughout the day to directly face the sun in order to maximize the energy derived from the closest star to our planet. The panels are said to increase energy output by up to 50 percent over conventional stationary photovoltaic panels.
