New SAP calculations boost ventilation adoption

Under the scheme, a trained contractor, who must be a member of a Competent Person Scheme, will ensure an installation is in line with competency requirements and complies with or at least meets the performance laid out in the original system design and complete a commissioning sheet capturing the installation details. This information will be submitted to building control and the SAP assessor and will reduce MVHR penalties from 40 to 30 per cent and MEV from 30 to 25 per cent, enabling developers to achieve a better value for their spend in SAP.

Jerseyville gets 'net zero' energy subdivision

Rooftop solar panels and wind turbines mounted over garages power all 32 homes at Lexington Farms, a new Jerseyville subdivision designed to provide residents no-cost electricity.

MidAmerica Solar of Imperial, Sachs Electric of Fenton, and Capstone Development Group of Webster Groves built the subdivision, which is about 40 miles north of St. Louis.

The Illinois Housing Development Authority provided more than $2.5 million in assistance for the project, including federal low-income housing tax credits and federal stimulus money. Funding also came from a $260,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity and financing from Sterling Bank.

Included in the project are 16 streetlights that operate entirely off the electrical grid.

Final assembly is done by six workers at BZ's small plant.

Solar panels to heat outdoor pool water

The sun had better start shining soon - Courtenay's outdoor swimming pool is being retrofitted with solar panels to heat the water for 18,000 summer swimmers.

Overall, the Samsung Infuse 4G is a satisfying Android smartphone. If you like big screens, look no further. The Apple iPhone 4 ($199, 4.5 stars) lacks the Infuse 4G's larger screen and free voice navigation, but it has a smoother, more reliable OS, and the world's best third-party app selection. The HTC Inspire 4G ($99.99, 4 stars) is now $100 cheaper, it's a better voice phone, it's made of classier materials and it features HTC's better Sense UI interface.
