Sanctions Deepening Iranians' Hatred for West

"Although sanctions have caused problems for people's everyday life, these pressures only deepen people's age-old hatred for those countries which practice these sanctions, specially the West," President Rouhani said in the first meeting of his cabinet with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here in Tehran on Wednesday.

"Yet, despite all these pressures, the Iranian nation has shown that it would stand firm against these sanctions and will not give up its inalienable rights," he continued.President Rouhani further reminded his repeatedly declared stance on interaction with the world powers, and said, "The government has declared to the world in a straightforward manner that the language of respect should replace the language of sanctions in dealing with the Iranian nation."

He said his administration will make use of the language of "peaceful coexistence accompanied by the language of resistance on the international scene".Washington and its western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.

Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.Tehran has repeatedly said that it considers its nuclear case closed as it has come clean of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s questions and suspicions about its past nuclear activities.

Jewell, meanwhile, will journey to the remote Alaskan village of King Cove Friday to meet with local residents about their push to construct a road through a wilderness area in the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge. Earlier this year Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) threatened to block Jewells nomination unless the Obama administration agreed to build the road through the refuge, a 315,000-acre stretch of eelgrass and tundra where Pacific black brants and other migrating birds feed before beginning their journey south.

We are so grateful that the U.S. Interior Secretary is coming to King Cove to get a real sense from residents of why this road corridor is the most reliable option and why its so crucial to this community, said Della Trumble, a spokeswoman for the Agdaagux Tribal Council and the King Cove Corporation who has lobbied for the road for 35 years. There are so many heart-wrenching stories from residents who experienced difficult medevacs on small planes or boats during dangerous, stormy weather,
As part of the deal outgoing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar struck with Murkowski to secure Jewells nomination, Interiors Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs Kevin Washburn visited King Cove and presided over a tribal consultation and a community meeting in late June. During his trip, Washburn encountered the same sort of difficult weather conditions local residents sometimes experience heavy fog and rough seas C forcing him to take a boat back to Cold Bay and climb the 20-foot ladder at the dock many medical evacuees have to ascend during emergencies.

Not unexpectedly, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Recovery and Jobs and its subcommittee, Pathways to Work, with over 20 meetings, are way out there in terms of frequency of meetings in this period. Mursi and Erdogan C a thorn in each others side

What Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan was able to keep under wraps for more than 10 years has eluded Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi to cover up for less than a year. Hence, the link between growing tensions in Cairo and the unprecedented anti-government protests in Istanbul.Online shopping for cableties from a great selection of Clothing. Oddly enough, Egyptians may be the closest observers-- outside Turkeyin following up the Turkish turmoil.

Few weeks after Mursi took office last summer, many people in the traditionally diverse Egyptian society saw through the agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood from which the president hails. He saw the bracelet at a howotipper store while we were on a trip.

It became increasingly clear that Mursi, who had portrayed himself during the election campaign as a president for all Egyptians, is only the president of his clan. His successive decisions and biased political discourse have exposed him as being manipulated by his group to impose a prejudicial cultural agenda.

In contrast, Erdogan was smart and shrewd enough to spend long years to carry out his ideological project during which he surmounted numerous obstacles, including a military coup bid in 2007. Thus, he was able to lead Turks into believing that he followed a secular ruling system and that his key objective was to achieve economic development, which has shown steady success in recent years.

Erodgan also demonstrated commitment to the Western-style democracy. On his re-election in 2007, he pledged to advocate freedom, justice, welfare and democracy for all Turks, confirming respect for those who did not vote for him.

In July last year when the Brotherhood followers were celebrating Mursi's win of the presidential post, Mohamed Al Beltagui, a leading official in the groups Freedom and Justice Party, went on the record as saying that the 48.5 per cent of the Egyptians who had not voted for Mursi are mere ghosts.

Pathetically, around five months into office, Mursis decisions and addresses as well as his groups actions sharply divided Egyptians into backers and opponents. Each side espouses an identity and an agenda alien to the countrys age-old features. This division has been repeatedly reflected in massive rallies staged by the Brotherhood and its allies aimed at flexing muscles against opponents.

Last week, Erdogan said he could mobilize millions of his supporters in response to the massive anti-government protests held in several Turkish cities.

Years into a rule often termed as wise, Turkey now figures prominently among countries infringing freedom of the press. Weeks after Mursi took office, his backers encircled the state-run Media Production City and filed a flurry of lawsuits and even made threats against media figures.

Contrary to his calls on the Egyptian regime to observe secular rules, Erdogan has recently enforced anti-freedom codes including monitoring the peoples public conduct.
Such laws are not yet in place in Egypt. Yet, artists in Egypt have recently become the target of Islamist radicals on religious TV stations.Automate patient flow and quickly track hospital assets and people using parkingguidance. The militant TV clerics have also accused their critics of defaming religion, a charge on which several Egyptian politicians and media personalities have recently been quizzed.

Both Egypt and Turkey are facing an identity crisis. The rulers in the two countries seek to impose contentious cultural projects.

However, the ruling systems in the two countries are different on one score. It took Erdogan many years before trying to do this. For its part, the Mursi regime has been unwise enough to rush into carrying out its project at cultural, political, social and legal levels.

Egyptians and Turks share the possibility of confronting their own rulers to block the controversial ideological project, regardless of whether it has already fulfilled achievement as in Turkey, or proved a fiasco as in Egypt.

Coincidently, the Egyptian and Turkish rulers have come to be a burden for each other. The matter is not limited to the similarity in the names of the ruling parties in both countries. Its the Freedom and Justice Party in Egypt; Erdogans party is called Justice and Development.

Egypts Islamist rulers have often portrayed Erdogans ruling system as their ideal example. Erdogan, meanwhile, has presented himself in the past two years as the regional sponsor of the new rulers in Tunisia and Egypt. Erdogans Turkey has also been involved in triggering changes in Libya and the war in Syria. The Motorola rtls Engine is an embedded software-only component of the Motorola wireless switches.

With Egypts economy in the doldrums, Turkey has repeatedly unveiled economic support for Cairo, showing Ankara as a staunch backer of Egypts Brotherhood rule. The Brotherhood's opponents have come to view Ankara as throwing its weight behind bids to change Egypts cultural identity.

In a Facebook comment, Erdogan described Mursi as an example that should be followed by youths". During a visit to Cairo last September, Erdogan called the situation in Egypt an awakening that spreads like waves in the world".

In the meantime, Brotherhood officials, mainly the deputy supreme guide Khayrat Al Shater, have made a series of trips to Turkey in recent months.Other companies want a piece of that drycabinet action Mursi himself attended a recent congress of Erodgans Justice and Development Party.

JACKS SMART COURT MOVES

March 2012, in a hit-back at the courts attempt to follow the money and compel the national football federation to bring its rogue agent Jack Warner to book, attorney Om Lalla asserted that improper pressure was being brought on the Federation and its executive to coerce them into action against his client and former de facto boss of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF).

The Lalla accusation followed half a dozen years of courtroom manoeuvres thrown up by Warners frontmen, Oliver Camps and Richard Groden, to dodge a volley of full-disclosure orders made by the court for the federations accounts. The Camps-Groden-led TTFF repeatedly failed to produce full and accurate financial records, as ordered, and disclosed instead four sets of conflicting accounts done by Warners accountant-in-chief, Kenny Rampersad.

It was only when they were threatened with contempt proceedings that Camps and Groden admitted to the controlling role Warner played from behind the scenes. In startling court affidavits filed last year,Shop wholesale bestsmartcard controller from cheap. the two men separately pinned the entire debacle of false and misleading financial information relating to TTFF and LOC Germany 2006 Ltdthe company used as a clearing house for World Cup sponsorship moneyon the man they previously described as a benefactor and the best thing to ever happen to local football.

They made it clear that Warner was the mastermind behind the scenes and the man holding all the books and financial records of the national football federation and LOC Germany. The two understated the facilitating role they played in giving the self-appointed negotiating agent of LOC Germany full control of all of the fede-rations World Cup sponsorship revenuesaid to be about $205.6 million, of which more than $100 million is unaccounted for.

The Camps and Groden duet claimed Warner had failed to respond to their repeated requests for financial records and other banking information related to the two companies. With the threat of contempt proceedings hanging over his head and no free get-out-of-jail card in sight, the former TTFF president of more than ten years, Camps, on February 17 last year, had his newly rostered lawyer, Derek Ali, dispatch a pre-action protocol letter to Warner with a demand for an account of sponsorship and other monies related to the 2006 World Cup campaign.

His previous lawyer on record, Om Lalla, who is also Warners substantive local counsel, in correspondence addressed to Ali and submitted to the court, took apparent umbrage with the tone and specific nature of the Camps request.

In criticism directed at the presiding judge, Devindra Rampersad, Lalla said: We wish to express our grave concern at what we can only describe as what appears to be improper pressure being brought on the TTFF and its executive to coerce them into action against our client. We have sought the opinion of Senior Counsel on this matter and, should the occasion arise, we will take the necessary steps to strenuously protect the interests of our client. The letter noted that it was Camps who organised the business of football through the TTFF and LOC Germany 2006.

He, however, omitted to mention that LOC Germany was a Warner-Rampersad creation in which Warners son, Daryll, and longtime secretary, Patricia Modeste, were also directors together with Groden and Camps.

Lalla noted: Your letter states that you are instructed that our client received monies, gifts, donations, grants and other benefits for and on behalf of the TTFF and for the benefit of the TTFF. If by this it is meant that our client was personally/beneficially in receipt in his own name of such gifts and other like donations and benefits, we are advised that your instructions are totally incorrect.

Lalla said Warner was well known for the prominent role he played as TTFFs special adviser in national and international football,Choose the right bestluggagetag in an array of colors. and made clear that his client was never personally, in his own name, in receipt of monies, gifts, donations, grants and like benefits on behalf of the TTFF either as agent or servant which were not handed over or deposited to the accounts of the TTFF and LOC Germany 2006.

He held that: All contributions were made directly to or in the name of the TTFF and or LOC Germany 2006. Lalla neglected to mention the small detail of the tens of millions of public and private sector funds redirected from TTFFs bank accounts to LOC Germany and other private Warner corporations or the fact that Warner had exclusive control of LOC.

He contended that all monies received on behalf of the Football Federation were either payable or made payable to TTFF and/ or LOC Germany and not to our client in his personal capacity.

Lalla countered that contrary to the claim of Warner being reluctant to assist the court, we are instructed to assure you that at all times our client has given full and honest disclosure of all rele-vant information within his knowledge.

Lalla argued that: The imputation contained in your instructions that our client in some way failed to make honest and full disclosure of all of the sponsorship revenue was disappointing and deeply resented and rejected. He said, Nothing could be further from the truth, and noted that Warner had re-doubled his efforts to determine if there was further information relevant to the courts enquiry that he might have overlooked.

Lalla pointed to the audited accounts of the TTFF and a reported $15 million debt owed to Warner for cash advances made to the federation. He noted that in addition to the $15 million debt stated in TTFFs audited accounts, Warner had been instrumental in providing leased premises to the federation, to which outstanding rent of over $1 million was owed.

Ignoring the built-in conflicts of interest related to Warners lease arrangements with related football bodies, the Lalla letter stated: This is mentioned not by way of any threat of immediate action to recover these outstanding monies but to demonstrate the fact that contrary to the imputation inhe-rent in your instructions the attitude and position of our client to yours has always been generous and not predatory.

He also did not go into the opaque and confusing accounting picture created by the several sets of Rampersad-produced accounts and the huge and conflicting gaps between the different Rampersad-disclosed sponsorship income and the $205.6 million figure provided to Mike Townley by the previous administration.

Townley, the English lawyer for the Soca Warriors, said recently Warner and the Football Federation had shown a shameful disregard for the process of law. He declined to talk about the specific settlement numbers currently under discussion with TTFFs new boss, Raymond Tim Kee, but was clear that: The dispute reached a point of stalemate with the TTFF refusing consistently to provide the accounting evidence that we need to establish the players entitlement.

According to him: There have been all sorts of games played out over the past years with the intention of hiding the real figures for the revenue gene-rated from the 2006 World Cup. TTFF initially were happy to produce accounts until we pointed out that they were manifestly false, and then they tried to blame Jack Warner for keeping all the relevant information to himself.

He says,You Can Find Comprehensive and in-Depth carparkmanagementsystem truck Descriptions. Oh no, I gave you all that information years ago. We are left now with little option but to petition the court for the winding-up of TTFF so that an Insolvency Trustee can open an investigation into where the money has gone.

Asked how this case measured up with a varied legal career which included some significant pieces of legislation, Townley told the Express: No one has come close to this. The mendaciousness of the defendant from the outset, the determination to hide the truth, the defiance of court orders, the false-accounting coupled with the high-handed manner that suggests that it is in fact the claimants who are at fault is staggering. It is in fact Kafkaesque.

Townley said: Before the credibility of the TTFF and those managing it were brought to nought with all their lies they used to regularly lambaste the claimants for not respecting the sanctity of the court. They are a parody of themselves.

He said things reached a farcical level when we applied to join Warner to the action and the same lawyers claimed to represent Warner and the TTFF and refused to acknowledge the obvious conflict of interest even when this was pointed out by the judge.

The roster of lawyers representing both the football federation and Warner up to last year included Dereck Balliram, British QC William McCormick and Om Lalla. Documents obtained by this newspaper show that on March 5, 2011, Lalla sent an e-mail about the previous days CMCs (Case Management Conference) hearing to several persons, including clients Warner, Camps and Rampersad.

The e-mail noted in part: The two major issues to have been determined was the time frame for the preparation of detailed accounts as per the Order.Elpas Readers detect and forward 'Location' and 'State' data from Elpas Active RFID Tags to host besticcard platforms. The time given is three months which is very generous given the last comments of the judge and opposition of the claimants. I request that Kenny Rampersad be immediately contacted to see if he can comply with the Order of the court as compliance will be crucial at this point.

The e-mail urged: Pls bear in mind the ability to successfully argue this matter depends on the ability to provide accounts requested by the judge. If at that stage we are unable to provide details of where the money was spent the judge can request tracing Orders to see where the money went. I can provide more details of what is expected or done but will prefer to do so at conference. The 3rd International Conference on custombobbleheads and Indoor Navigation.

TV Everywhere Delivers in 2013

The technology worldlike many othersis hardly immune from poor predictions. Id argue that one of the dumber calls made recently has been by those doubting the viability of TV Everywhere, the name given to services that allow cable or satellite TV subscribers to use their credentials to log in and view programming on devices other than a TV, such as laptops, smartphones and tablets. Give it a few years time and it will be obvious just how off-base that call is.

In January of this year, a GfK survey questioned more than 1,000 paid TV subscribers about TV Everywhere services. The findings indicated that only a small number of pay TV subscribers currently enjoy TV Everywhere services. The press used to study to write off the future of the industry. All doom-and-gloom. Well, the press got it wrong.

The GfK study actually found encouraging indicators of market momentum. Nearly 25 percent of respondents said they were more likely to keep their existing TV services because of the availability of TV Everywhere products. Press that covered the study focused on the lack of consumer awareness and the difficulty in accessing TV content online. The truth is that the industry is already delivering exciting content that users are consumingand 2013 promises to bring even more seamless access to a flood of new content.

The GfK study is not the real issue. The issue is that the loudest critics subscribe to an outdated definition of TV Everywhere fixated on the authentication of a subscriber on a non-TV device. This narrow definition ignores new technologies and features that will deliver.

A deluge of mobile devices enter the market every day. And we now live in a world in which consumers use billions of TV-capable screens in addition to the billions of traditional television screens around the world. Mobile device sales have far outpaced TV sales, with more than 10 billion mobile-connected devices expected to be in market in 2017. Compare that to an estimated 650 million internet-connected televisions during the same time. Consumers expect every screen,It has been developed for howotipper control applications. in every location, to act as a TV screen. The industry will have to follow.

Easy access to content is already driving up TV Everywhere consumption. During the 2012 Summer Olympics, more than 88 million authenticated streams were served to 10 million devices across 7 million households in the course of only 17 days in the U.S. Weve also seen the number of authentications increase 12-fold in 2012 compared to the previous year, with other events like March Madness, UEFA Euro 2012 soccer and the NBA playoffs pushing TV Everywhere use.

TV Everywhere offers a unique opportunity for brands that want to reach a targeted audience with more relevant content. Data derived from TV Everywhere services will drive better, more personalized programming and targeted ads that capture the viewers attention. This will be a win for advertisers, but also consumers, who tend to tune out ads that dont resonate with their interests.

As TV Everywhere evolves, the industry will quickly address issues raised by consumers and critics. The GfK study suggests that authentication proves a barrier to TV Everywhere adoption, but media critics might be surprised by the easy login methods available now and coming.

Some operators already use automatic authentication based on home Internet setups. Others have started working with telecommunication companies to use mobile phone numbers as a way for subscribers to access TV content on their smartphones. The term 'earcap control' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag. Using Twitter and Facebook accounts as logins will be standard by 2014 and will further simplify the authentication process. Consumers already began enjoying some of these services during the Summer Olympics last year, when Comcast and Cablevision offered in-home automatic log-in to NBC Olympics content.

Critics also zeroed in on the small amount of TV content available online and the fragmentation of individual programmers. We expect the industry to respond to consumer demand in 2013 by bringing a majority of premium channels onlinewith operators leading the charge. Live sporting events such as PAC-12 and the Big Ten tournaments, news, favorite sitcoms and late night comedies will become available as live, linear and VOD content this year, and, as programmers update licensing agreements and gear up ad sales, content will no longer be limited to one or two device platforms. An bestrtls is a term used for a network of devices used to wirelessly locate objects.

Improved content will drive increased consumption. As this happens, digital marketers will demand more than just panel-based measurement. Marketers will soon rely on the cross-platform viewing habits of individual, anonymous users gathered by TV programmers, operators and third-party technology providers to more effectively target their messages.

The developments expected for TV Everywhere promise to improve ease-of access, the variety and quality of content and the monetization opportunities for TV advertisers. With these changes, we are in the midst of a foundational shift to a more engaging and valuable TV experience fundamentally driven by consumer demand and fueled by Internet-enabled devices. The opportunity for TV programmers and operators who rise to the occasion, is immense.

The system lays out a network of about 100 sensors, called honeypots, to lure potential hackers. When hackers bite and they are trapped, the system immediately analyzes the attack, generating data which Deutsche Telekom uses to visualize where attacks originate on a world map. The Belly Is at the Heart of a New Jakarta Restaurant

Whether we admit it or not, the belly is an important center of our beings. People are willing to work hard, travel far and pay high prices just to satisfy its appetite — a truth that is at the core of a new restaurant in Jakarta.

The Belly Clan Eatery and Bar is the brainchild of five friends — Amanda Florencia Setiawan, Yohanes Randy, Olivia Heriyanto, Wenny Sutedjo and Waldheim Willim — who met while they were studying in Melbourne, Australia.

“Melbourne is a foodie’s haven,” Yohanes said. “Everybody there appreciates good food and drinks. There’s always a long waiting list at the favorite restaurants.”

Amanda added that they picked the catchy name because it represents their culinary concept.

“The Belly Clan is a gathering for avid foodies, like ourselves,” she said.We mainly supply professional craftspeople with wholesale agate beads from china,

It was the founders’ passion for food which inspired them to establish a restaurant of their own in Jakarta, after they had completed their studies in Australia between 2010 and 2011.

“A good friend introduced us to chef Hengky Efendy,” Yohanes said. “He’s a great chef with remarkable international experience. And he used to work at Maze, one of our favorite restaurants in Melbourne.”

In 2004, the chef started his career as a cook at The Savoy Grill, in London, where he worked directly under Michelin-starred chef Josh Emett. Since then, Hengky has worked in several top restaurants in the Middle East, Japan, the Maldives and the United States, before he was appointed as the sous chef of Maze.

Today, the 34-year-old chef helms the kitchen of The Belly Clan, and together with the five owners, Hengky has concocted a unique pan-Asian fusion menu for the restaurant.

“Pan-Asian fusion is sexy,” Hengky said. “It’s a blend of exotic Asian spices and Western food ingredients. It suits all palates.”

Diners should start with Korean beef tortillas. The beef, wrapped inside flour tortillas, is marinated in Korean red pepper paste gojuchang, before it is drizzled with sesame oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds. It’s tender and savory, with a kick of spicy tang.

Or, indulging in the nachos appetizer is also a sure win. The tortilla chips are served with tomato salsa with a sweet and spicy avocado wasabi dip on the side. The perfect combination of flavors will definitely tantalize your taste buds.

The restaurant’s mains represent a harmony between the East and West.

The short-rib steak,This is my favourite sites to purchase those special pieces of buy mosaic materials from. for example, uses prime grain-fed Stock Yards Angus beef from Australia. The lightly grilled beef is covered with freshly ground green chilies. And while the dish may look a bit daunting at first, Hengky says not to worry.

“The green chilies are not as spicy as the red ones. In fact, they highlight the flavors of the beef,” he added.

The juicy steak features a rich buttery flavor, complemented by the peppery chilies. The dish is presented with pomme puree, carrots and broccoli.

The Wagyu beef burger is a highlight of the menu, especially with a side of truffle oil drizzled fries. Between lightly toasted buns is the prime Australian Wagyu beef, molten cheddar cheese and the Korean kimchi salad. The spicy and sour flavors of the kimchi nicely accentuate the succulent prime beef.

The Belly Clan also boasts a well-stocked bar and creative cocktails.

“There are over 200 types of red, white and dessert wines from around the world at the bar,” said bartender Aulia Rachman.

The list includes Louis Roederer Cristal 2004 from France, Opus One 2005 from Chile, Wolf Blass Black Label 2006 from Australia and Allegrini Amarone 2008 from Italy.

The Madame Choo cocktail — a milky-hued concoction of vodka, grape juice and lemon juice — is presented in a margarita glass with a crystal ball floating on top.

“The crystal ball is made of ice and contains rose petals, basil leaves and grape slices,” Aulia said. “It’s very pretty and keeps the drink cool and refreshing.”

Served in a brandy glass, the Great Wall is a simple, golden blend of brandy and amaretto. The bartender lights the drink on fire, throws cloves, orange peels and cinnamon sticks into the glass and allows it to cook for about a minute, giving the drink a heady exotic aroma.

Painted black and white with polished wooden furniture and ambient lighting, the restaurant exudes a warm, romantic feel that invites guests to linger. Its private dining room features a whitewashed brick wall, granite tiles and large gilded mirrors. The room consists of a long table and chairs that can accommodate up to 25 diners. Its floor-to-ceiling windows offer brief glimpses of the busy Jalan Sudirman.

Emma-Jane North, spa director, has many years of experience working at some of the best spas in the country – and her insight is obvious as she takes me on a tour of the luxurious new addition.China plastic moulds manufacturers directory. We start with the contemporary café, dominated by a huge fish tank built into the wall. Next door is the manicure and pedicure area, boasting deluxe treatment chairs covered in luxurious fabrics and countless vibrant OPI nail varnishes. Moving through, we enter a special double treatment room, suitable for the disabled, and the spa’s Mud Glorious Mud chamber,We recently added Stained glass mosaic Tile to our inventory. ideal for detoxifying treatments.

The changing rooms, accessed via a magnetic wristband that also allows guests access to the thermal spa area, are the best I’ve seen. Fun phrases such as ‘Forever Young!’ and ‘Looking Good’ grace cute booths fitted with hairdryers and mirrors, while the lockers bear bright seasonal scenes, so you can keep your belongings in an area to suit your mood!

Entering the thermal spa, I drop off my footwear at the cute ‘Slipper Parking’ cupboard and prepare for some serious R&R. First up is Steamy,The term 'hands free access control' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag. a magical cavern with iridescent mosaic tiles that sits at 100 per cent humidity and warms me up nicely. I’m not a big fan of saunas, but Softy – next door – is perfect for wimps like me. At 60 degrees and with 30 per cent humidity, not to mention its ergonomic design and floor-to-ceiling window with views of the garden spa, it becomes my firm favourite.

Having eyed the 11-metre hydrotherapy outdoor pool, I can’t wait to plunge into the bubbling waters. Though it’s cold outside, the waters are deliciously warm and it’s sheer joy being pummelled by the powerful jets, mesmerised by flames from the outdoor fire.

Some Like It Hot!, a Kelo sauna, encased in a cabin made from 100-year-old logs, overlooks the pool. At 85 degrees plus, it’s not for the faint hearted. I lasted three minutes. Burning up, I threw myself on the mercy of The Chill Zone braving a Glacier Shower and the Frost Wall (brrr!) before retreating to the steam room Salty.

Lunch was served in the café, though guests can opt to eat at Wyboston’s Waterfront Restaurant. There were lots of light bites, plus the option to create your own salad, but I plumped for stir fry duck with egg noodles, pak choi and sweet chilli, which was very tasty. Literally hours later, I managed the afternoon tea; dainty cakes, open sandwiches and warm mini scones with jam and cream, it was decadence personified.

Booked in for a hedonistic two-hour Elemis Absolute Spa Experience, I headed up the stairs to the treatment waiting room, which had a rustic feel to it. My therapist Katie was so adept at the full body massage and facial that I practically snoozed through the experience; hopefully she took this as a compliment.

American or Artist?

This is the question I pondered at this huge retrospective of his work in the heart of Paris. There seems to be a Hopper retrospective ever few years or so in the United States. His images have become so familiar, so iconic in their simple compositions and their isolated characters sitting silently in public and private spaces. His most famous painting, “Nighthawks” (1942), has been reproduced and caricatured so often you are surprised when you actually stand in front of it, the dramatic contrasting light between the diner’s inner, yellow hues and the shadowy street never match a reproduction. The painting practically glows from the interior outward, the light indistinct in source. It seems as if the whole canvas must be illuminated from behind. “Nighthawks,” like many of his works of the era, have become iconic of the mid-century era, their compositions inspiring artists and directors in the decades since. Hopper himself has from his earliest shows in the 1930s been called a definitively American painter, a painter who somehow captures the American scene.

Take the review of Hopper’s first major exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1933 in the New York Times, which noted with near glee, “on the ground floor are the water-colors — all of them save an amusing little set of Parisian ‘types,’ which has a wall to itself elsewhere in the building.” The “amusing little types” that captured scenes of Paris were by choice set off on their own, displaced as a kind of exotic moment amidst a landscape that was firmly American. In the substantial catalog to that show, MoMa director Alfred Barr argued that like any great artist of any era, Hopper traveled to the art capital of his day: Paris. But, Barr reassured, “he returned to his native country and showed in his mature work almost no vestige of his studies abroad.” In this way, critics often placed Hooper alongside the regionalist painters of the era such as Grant Wood or Thomas Hart Benton. These latter, mid-Western artists affected a persona of rural idealism in their persona and canvases.

Over two decades later, Time magazine, which featured Hopper on its cover, used the artist’s work and life as a crucial example of the kind of art that was uniquely American. In a tone that reflected those hyper-nationalistic 1950s, the profile celebrated Hopper’s own kind of realism and presented the artists work as important to the heritage of American art as distinct from European aesthetics. Over the decades, American art, the magazine informs us,We recently added Stained glass mosaic Tile to our inventory. “has reflected not European painting but American life — rough and smooth, tumultuous and diverse.” With respect to Hopper himself, the article quotes realist painter Jack Levine who noted “no dreams of the old masters set him off his course . . . Hopper looks inland. He’s an American painter all the way.”

Hopper’s Americaness has so often been his story, despite the fact that he himself was quite dubious of such a label. “The French painters didn’t talk about the ‘French Scene,’ or the English painters the ‘English Scene,The term 'hands free access control' means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag.’” was Hopper’s usual response to claims of his art’s geographical specificities. His rightful resistance to the claims about his art was an effort to recover his paintings as something more personal than national, more individual than social. “What lives in a painting is the personality of the painter,” he once said. And in this sense seeing Hopper as a kind of quintessential American painter distracts us from seeing Hopper the painter.High quality stone mosaic tiles.

Despite the many times I’ve encounter his paintings,The oreck XL professional air purifier, I’ve never had the experience of looking at Hopper in Europe. I hadn’t imagined that it would be much different than looking at Hopper in New York or Los Angeles. Unlike my earlier encounters with Hopper exhibitions, this one was not born in the United States nor was it set to tour there. Curated by Didier Ottinger, Chief Curator for the Centre Pompidou in Paris, “Hopper” at the Grand Palais offers a different story of artist’s development that has little to do with the American scene, and much more with the complex history that the artist’s work was caught in, between New York and Paris, between 19th century realism and 20th century modernity.

We can easily forget that much of what we admire about Hopper’s work today was done later in his life. The MoMa show in 1933 was mounted just before the artist’s 50th birthday. Between his art school education at the turn of the century, to the early 1930s, Hopper had worked as a magazine illustrator (the covers are projected in large colorful slides in one gallery), he experimented with etching (many are on display here), and worked for a time with watercolors. A small collection of these watercolors are presented here illuminating his delicate skill with the medium, crafting scenes as stark and quiet as his later works, each absent of people with hints of voyeurism. He exhibited and sold a painting in the famous Armory Show in the spring of 1913 in New York that brought European modernist works to New York — most famously symbolized in Marcel Duchamp’s “Nude Descending a Staircase” (1912).Whether you are installing a floor tiles or a shower wall, Such a diversity of experiences makes it difficult to know where to start the story of Hopper, and where to located the origins of his aesthetics.

Perhaps we can start at the New York School of Art where Hopper studied between 1900 and 1906. There he was influenced by his teachers William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri, who advocated a social realism that merged the values of late 19th century French painting with the particular subject matter of an increasingly urban America. It is Henri’s paintings that we first encounter in this show, his darkly framed image of an art student and one deeply intimate portrait of Thomas Eakins, whom he much admired. This first gallery situated Hopper among his contemporaries such as George Bellows, Whistler, and John Sloane. Henri’s focused drew on European post-Impressionism but capturing scenes of urban street life. For this group of artists, like their French contemporaries, the subject of painting rested on the new realities of social life, of working-class salons, of construction sites, train stations, and boxing matches.

But before you get to these painters, this show opens with the black and white film “Manhatta” (1921), a collaboration between painter Charles Scheeler and photographer Paul Strand. The non-narrative film captures a sequence of Manhattan moments, from ferry crossings to the top of the newly built “skyscrapers,” the camera angled on elevated train platforms and window ledges all presenting the wonderment with the city’s growing monumentality. These images are interspersed with lines from Walt Whitman poems, modernism’s linearity meshing with 19th century romanticism. But such a vision of the city stands in strong contrast to the realists that Hopper studied with, whose vision of urban life is much more intimate, eschewing the skyscrapers of modernity for the street life in the shadows. Hopper himself never painted a skyscraper, though he lived much of his life in Greenwich Village, underscoring the personal and psychological themes of his paintings against the modernism grandeur. His canvases are firmly rooted in an intimacy of small moments, a theater of empty spaces and silent encounters, of country lanes and lighthouses, that almost push out the voices and clatter of the city’s upward thrust.

Company honored by Gov Perdue

Bev Perdue announced this month the 2012 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Workforce Development, with one local business among the recipients.

Lincolnton Furniture Company was on the list of those businesses recognized for their accomplishments and contributions in helping North Carolina achieve its work-force development goals.

This recognition comes after a year of publicity surrounding the company, credited with being among those leading the way for manufacturing’s return to the United States. Media outlets from around the world have taken their turns capturing the story of owner Bruce Cochrane.

The White House also took notice. As the Times-News has previously reported, Cochrane received invites for both an “Insourcing American Jobs” forum and President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address early this year.

This attention, he told the Times-News on Friday, has helped, and continues to do so, when it comes to raising capital.

“We’re fortunate to have nice publicity and enthusiastic support,” he said. ” … We’re still a startup.”

Gaining access to capital remains a challenge for most new companies, he said. But, his story has lent itself to that effort, and many of his investors have been local. He hopes this will allow the business to continue to grow and become viable.

As for this latest accolade bestowed upon his company, Cochrane said it is “quite an honor.”

Lincolnton Furniture Company was named a 2012 “Outstanding Employer,” one of only two. Cochrane attended the reception in Greensboro on Nov. 1.

He said he was surprised by how many people were at the event, estimating that between 700 and 800 were there.

“Our hardworking and talented citizens are the cornerstone of our economic development efforts,The howo truck is offered by Shiyan Great Man Automotive Industry, and their dedicated efforts are helping our economy grow,” Gov. Perdue said in a statement after the awards were handed out. “I congratulate these award recipients for their determination, innovation and commitment to helping make our employees the nation’s best.”

The N.C. Commission on Workforce Development recognized the individuals and businesses as part of the 2012 Workforce Development Partnership Conference in Greensboro.

Cochrane hosted an open house in September to mark Lincolnton Furniture Company’s one-year anniversary, back in the plant on Cochrane Road that once housed his family business.A stone mosaic stands at the spot of assasination of the late Indian prime minister.

He told the Times-News at the time that he hopes to expand his employee count from its current 70 — about 60 percent of whom once worked for Cochrane Furniture before it closed in 2008 — to 130 by the first quarter of next year. However, he said Friday that that will all depend on the state of the retail industry moving forward.

Also among this year’s award recipients was Timken Bearings of Iron Station, which, along with a group of other employers, was recognized for the 2012 “Innovative Partnership” distinction. As part of Apprenticeship 2000, the companies have formed a model partnership developed by Blum Inc. in 1995 that demonstrates a working collaboration among employers, secondary and postsecondary educational institutions and the N.C. Department of Labor.Find a great buy mosaic Art deals on eBay!

The mission of Apprenticeship 2000 is to train employees guaranteed to meet the skills needed by the companies. The goal is to close the skilled-labor gap and reduce the shortage of skilled technicians, according to the press release from Gov. Perdue’s office.
